If you don't mind, where are you getting your information?

Only for NEW E2 applications.

So, if you just started a contract but plan to sign again next year, you won't need it til you re-sign. Those whose contracts are up soon are the ones who are gonna be paving the way for the rest of us on the rigamarole.

Is signing a second contract and extending a current E2 considered a NEW application?

Easy for the brits.

Check the Met or your local constabulary's website.

Print off the form, send it to the UK with a photocopy of your passport - call them first to check though and get them to say yes to this.

Get somebody you know to write a ten quid cheque and forward that with the form to the police.

They will then send you a receipt in a couple of days. Couple of weeks later a letter appears saying that you have no convinctions.

It's not a full CRB check. If they need that them you are stuffed since it can't happen without an registered organisation applying for you first.

The MET say it takes up to 40 days(add postal delays and the usually backlog) This is a request for information under the data protection act, not a criminal record check. It's a pain to do from Korea. You have to also send ID and proof of address(with your name on it). Individuals and foreign organisations cannot apply for a CRC. There are 3rd party organisations that do this, but only for schools and other UK companies, orgs or groups where contact with children is common.

UK Criminal Records Bureau

And try not to give the originals away, they only ask for them again a month later

I think the data protection thing will do them nicely. Was accepted for me for my public school job.

Data protection thing was no hassle for me. My constabulary is Northumberia 2nd biggest but pretty quiet. Took 2 weeks as I said from sending it off to getting it back.

If they demand CRB checks say goodbye to all the brits.

Arirang 10:00PM news last night. Pocariboy posted pretty much what they announced last night on the news.

I wonder where the line will be drawn. I'm worried Koreans may not really know the particular levels/charges/names of particular items that would come up on a criminal report.

Uriniating in Public?
Disturbing the peace?
Default Financial Judgements?
Disorderly Conduct?

Which of those would prevent someone from working in Korea? I wonder if Immi will have an appeal system then in place?

Overdue library books.

I'd be dead meat on a stick. A swizzle stick!

I think most of us aren't so worried about what a crim check would "uncover" so much as

1. the red tape it creates
2. Impossible deadlines
3. lack of clarification on WHAT they need specifically
4. Getting caught in the 'shift' to new system

And maybe a little concerned about where they will draw the line...

running a stop sign in Korea (and actually getting a ticket for it) is a super serious event & a 1 mil won fine

doing the same in US is relatively minor & wouldnt prevent employment

so yes there are some very real discrepencies between what we consider minor infractions & what is considered minor over here...

I went back & read the posting from arirang & it also says "medical histories" WHAT?? the employment medical isn't enough, now they want a history?? I wouldnt even know where to begin to gather that kinda information.... gosh darn it, China is looking pretty darn good about now....

Me either. My med info is strewn over at least a dozen hospitals around Ontario. Couldn't name one hospital outside of my uni town, and even IN town couldn't name a single doctor who's treated me.

Considering the fact that they have been working on the degree verification thing for more than 6 years and haven't got it figured out yet...

what do you honestly think the chances are of them of figuring out the crim check in 7 different countries with more than 60 different police services / data bases.

They are blowing smoke and hoping things will look good before the upcoming election.

It will be piecemeal at best with absolutely no consistency and with the transient nature of the beast commonly known as an ESL teacher, impossible to enforce in an effective manner.

Are you ready for the new Korean GONG SHOW yet?

^ This is what I'm thinking.

Still, Korea is just becoming too much of a pain in the arse to deal with for the rewards. There are other places to teach.

These are the sites we have found so far.
I have not personally used any of these except for the Australian one however.

www.instantpeoplecheck.com got a good review from one of my teachers.

UK
http://www.crb.gov.uk

USA
http://www.fbi.gov
www.instantpeoplecheck.com

CANADA
www.govtfiles.com
www.instantpeoplecheck.com

AUSTRALIA
www.afp.gov.au

NEW ZEALAND
www.police.govt.nz

I had previously passed on www.backcheck.net to some teachers on the advice of EPIK and today received this review from one of them:

1. It is a private company. Who they are, and how they get the information seems rather suspect;
2. EPIK hasn't, from anything I've read, qualified WHAT check is required. This company sells a number of reports;
3. Some of the reports provide VERY detailed information about places of residence, employment, etc. This seems far beyond what is normally required for a criminal background check; and
4. How much does it cost?! I don't know, and they won't tell you, until you make a request for said information via a form on the website.

If you are coming over to Korea for any kind of job, order a check done...NOW
Our contact at the Immigration office today told my staff that checks will not have to be done each year like the transcripts...just his opinion, nothing official.

That instantpeoplecheck site almost seems like a scam when you click on the FBI link and it tells you you have to turn in fingerprints/yadda/yadda and wait 3 months.

How can theirs be so fast when the real thing takes so long?

Oh, I think I just answered myself:

From the instantpeoplecheck FAQ:

Quote:

Are your records official?
No, almost every state strictly prohibits official criminal records from being disseminated to anyone other than state law enforcement agencies. However, IPC has the most comprehensive criminal records on the internet.

And this one from thier Terms and Conditions:
Quote:

# You will not use information provided for credit purposes, insurance underwriting, employment or any other purpose that violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar state statutes. (We have made the Fair Credit Reporting Act available for viewing).
