Re: www.instantpeoplecheck.com ...Fair point.
At the moment the Ministry of Education is accepting them though.
Wait just going off to get the can opener...got some worms to open.
What a mess this will be!
As far as I know, the only embassy that provides a service to teachers in Korea now is the South African Embassy.
For those in Korea now, wanting to get an official check done, I have no idea what you will do.
For those not in Korea, go to a local police station and get them done...this seems to be the fastest option. |

Salaries will not rise over this. They didn't change before when all the fake degrees got exfoliated and they won't again over this.
When EPIK and GEPIK and SMOE all got into the game, salaries didn't change either, even though thousands of new jobs opened at a time when unigwons were expanding, English villages were popping up everywhere, and fake degree holders bailed ship.
With this relatively minor inconvenience (in comparison), nothing will change this time either. Your salary will stay the same. The hakwon owners association controls the salaries. They blackball any owner that steps out of line, and they won't raise the salary ... no matter what. They'll just find another way to fill the vacancy. You might be able to get higher private fees though.
The only thing to change hakwon salaries is every few years, the hakwon owners let the salary go up 100 to 200 thousand won to match inflation (but never to keep up with it). |

Easy for the brits.
Check the Met or your local constabulary's website.
Print off the form, send it to the UK with a photocopy of your passport - call them first to check though and get them to say yes to this.
Get somebody you know to write a ten quid cheque and forward that with the form to the police.
They will then send you a receipt in a couple of days. Couple of weeks later a letter appears saying that you have no convinctions.
It's not a full CRB check. If they need that them you are stuffed since it can't happen without an registered organisation applying for you first. |
yeah this is true. just got mine done and scanned, i will use the scanned copy if they want until they request the real thing. lucky for me i was at home for a bit in the summer. |

The MET say it takes up to 40 days(add postal delays and the usually backlog) This is a request for information under the data protection act, not a criminal record check. It's a pain to do from Korea. You have to also send ID and proof of address(with your name on it). Individuals and foreign organisations cannot apply for a CRC. There are 3rd party organisations that do this, but only for schools and other UK companies, orgs or groups where contact with children is common.
UK Criminal Records Bureau
And try not to give the originals away, they only ask for them again a month later |
When they ask for your proof of address, do they mean your UK address or Korean address?
I haven't lived in the UK for years, so I don't have any photo ID with a UK address, and I think the only proof of address in Korea is on my ARC card which is printed in Korean. Bills which come, are in my wife's name. |

And salaries will not rise....we can't blame anyone except ourselves. Can't blame the hakwon owners or government workers who fill the public school positions or universities positions. It's our fault for accepting whatever wage they offer! Until we wise up and stop signing...nothing will change. And I thought teachers were suppose to be smart?! And yet we sign...... |

I used a background check service. And lo and behold I don't have a criminal record so it just says no records found. I have never been arrested for anything so I wasn't surprised.
However, the school was somewhat suspicious as because it simply said under "Criminal Records" -- No files found.
And an FBI Check is arduous and long.
Waiting for their next move.

CPN didn't have an E2.
But just checked, and the original article said employment, not E2. |

| My school had me sign a one sentence document that stated " There is no record of a criminal record for Beej" I gladly signed it. I wonder if criminal records have records. |

ALL the fake degrees? There are supposedly thousands of people teaching here on fake degrees...according to one estimation about 20,000. ]
Even at half that...the number of fake degree holders caught (106?) is a drop in the bucket. If ALL fake degree holders were caught and forced to leave (or a majority of them) en masse, you'd see a rise in salary sooner or later.
As for the hakwon association that could be why many hakwon owners have the clause about not revealing your salary to a third party in their contracts. They may be forced to give you a higher wage in order to have a FT and don't want you telling your salary to a friend who may work for another hakwon who sticks to the agreed upon wage for FT's. |

Well, I filled out the form for www.backcheck.com, the online link sent to be via EPIK....
It's been 2 days and they haven't replied.... not looking good....
I was also told by my contact via EPIK that they would accept a "lodgement" until my report came back from the FBI. Well, I'm not exactly sure *what* a lodgement is, have asked but that question was ignored... any clues out there....??
I'm guessing it's a reciept or something... but I dont think the FBI gives one. |
