his inescapable conclusion follows from his assumption that we should be risk averse in decision making under conditions of uncertainty
and from his assessment of the possible outcomes, which underplays the effects of taking action and being right about climate change: smiley face? there is just as much chance of deep economic depression under that outcome as under the case of taking action when it turns out that our influence on global warming was a hoax
but his use of a diagram to talk about row vs. column thinking, focusing more on what's happening then on what we should do about it, is useful for those risk averse enough to be willing to support widespread change now. |
