I'm taking a test at chonnam national university in Kwanju next week, and am hoping that someone who lives there could tell me the easist way to get there. I was looking at a map and it seemed to say that the university was really close to "Kwangju station," which is where I'm hoping the trains from Seoul arrive.
Is this correct? If it is, do you know of any decent motels in the area? |

Since no one has replied yet, I'll chime in.
I've never lived there but I've visited several times. I've gone there via KTX and Express bus and neither station was anywhere near the University.
I'd suggest taking a taxi to "Chonnam dae hoo-moon" (Chonnam University back gate) and finding a love motel or Yeogwan in the area. Carefully annunciate "Chonnam dae." One time the taxi driver took me to Chosun University back gate ("Cho-dae hoo moon") instead.
I can't give an estimate of the hotel prices though, as I've always crashed at friends' houses.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can chime in with some more advice. |

Thanks for the input. That's really helpful and a good start.
I do have one more question you could probably ask-- is it necessary to reserve a ticket from Seoul to Gwangju in advance? |

ajp,
I agree with what stvwrd said about getting to Chonnam National University.
If you are going during the weekday, you should be fine without making a reservation. During the weekend is another story. I'm not sure I'd risk trying to get a seat on short notice then. |

Thanks for the heads up--I got my ticket today just to be safe. |

Just so you know, the train station is actually really close to Chonam university. I live close to this area. You could walk from the train station, but I would recommend taking a cab (about 2,000 won) or the #57 bus.
hope this helps |

...also, there are a lot of hotels close to the train station that you should have no problem getting a room in. If you come out of the train station and walk to the right there are a bunch of love-type motels within about a block. I have stayed at the Prince Hotel and it was nice and clean. |

I worked at Cheonnam. The KTX station is a 5 minute walk. There are tonnes of love motels. |
