Hi there, we are in the process of buying a car from a foreigner in Suncheon (that we are fetching TODAY!Yes, know we left it until the last minute, but hope someone can help!), but we need to have the car registration changed to our name - does anyone know where we need to go to have this done in the Suncheon/Gwangyang area? Thanks!!! Hope someone can help!!! |

After you find out, please post here so the rest of us know. I'm surprised the other foreigner you bought it from didn't help at all. (Well, maybe not too surprised) |

If you are in Gwangyang you need to go to the City Hall (시청)to change the ownership over. They made someone I know get a name-stamp made rather than just signing the documents..hopefully they're more intelligent than that now though.
I think in Suncheon the City Hall is also the place to go. In bigger cities you go to your local -gu office.
If you need to get a Korean licence you'll have to go all the way over to Naju to transfer your home one over. |

Thanx for the advice, found it ok - just babelfished "car registration office" on the internet and gave it to a taxi driver in Suncheon - he took us to a place a little out of town (next to a big car dealer) where we got it all done in about 30 minutes. But just heard back from the person that sorted out our car insurance for us - she also said that we could've had it done at city hall, so I guess that would've been the easier option! Anyway, she gave me this info about the city hall in Gwangyang, in case anyone is interested:
Gwangyang City hall, Minwonsil (민원실) (061)797-2114 (closed between 12~13:00).
Hope this info helps you guys! |
