Hello everyone,
I will be leaving for Korea in the next couple months and I was wondering what your thoughts were on some "must see" places and events in Korea and surrounding areas. I look forward to reading some of your responses! |

Do you know Jeju Island? It is known as the Hawaii of Korea, it has a nice warm temperature and is famous for the Mandarin Oranges and Hallasan, the biggest mountain in South Korea.
Also Seoraksan mountain in Gangwon province is a very nice place to visit in the autumn season. It has beautiful scenery because of the changing colors of the leaves.
You should also visit Gyeongju which was the capital of Korea during the Shilla dynasty. It has many ancient sites and national treasures. The tombs and museums are very interesting. The people are very kind and there are many local foods that are the most delicious in Korea.

I highly recommend the Bugok Railroad Museum in Uiwang. They have authentic subway cars and you can actually go inside them!
Ha, just kidding! That last picture is from a real subway. |

When I lived there, I rather thought of it as the 'Mexico of Korea'.
FONDLY, OF COURSE. |

Gyeongju, Changjeonggung palace in Seoul, the top of Bugak Mountain in Seoul overlooking the city, a night of walking and drinking on the Cheonggechon (put the liquor in another bottle, people look at you weird there when drinking out of the bottle). |

The one near Hyewha with the massive amount of land, Japanese style pond with ducks and fish and botanical garden. The palace itself isn't as big as the others, but the natural beauty of the place is great, especially being inside of Seoul. I like to bring bread for the fauna. |

The best thing about Korea is that it is so close to Japan. From home it takes a 10 hour flight to get to Japan, but from Korea it's only 40 minutes.
I would recommend seeing the departure lounge at the Ferry terminal in Busan, from there the fast ferry gets you to Japan in no time, and it's a nice boat/ferry trip.
The best thing I've seen whilst in Korea is Japan. |
