Yeah, I don't know if Maher is a liberal per se. He's pretty hawkish on Israel. Though he hasn't gone as crazy for defense as Dennis Miller. What the hell happened to Dennis Miller?

Maher's show is good, and generally funny. Why assume that he's responsible for serious politics?

I think the biggest problem with the media in the U.S. is that Maher, Colbert, and Stewart are now responsible for respresenting my generation, at least politically. They all do a good job, but they're COMEDIANS. They don't have an obligation to be politically astute, they have an obligation to be FUNNY.

Then again, Jon Stewart has sort of carved out the role of Court Jester for American Cable. Did you see him rip Chris Matthews? It stopped being funny and just seemed appropos. Which I actually find a bit disturbing.

Through the looking glass.

He's not. He's libertarian.

I think they're a good way to keep people interested in politics. They seem to be as politically astute as any other daily commentator. And at least they don't pretend to be the be all and end all like a lot of others do. Obviously O'Reilly and Limbaugh are as annoying as all hell. As can be Olberman and Miller, who are both rather pretentious for being sports casters. I can't take Penn & Teller's show either because Penn is so pompous.

I disagree that this is a good thing. As clever as Stewart and Colbert are, they are still entertainers. The MSM is all about entertainment news. Let's be honest, Stewart and Colbert have broken into the MSM, and things remain basically the same. Except perhaps the entertainment has become more amusing.

At least when you watch Stewart and Colbert, you know to take everything you hear with a grain of salt. You're actually forced to do a little more digging on the issues. They're upfront about being entertainers. With more serious news outlets, the entertainment is value is muted, but still a part of the hidden agenda. People will mistakenly take everything they hear at face value. Which is obviously a big mistake.

texas pete, here is hoping such facts don't get in the way:

"But also, we should--we have been cowards lobbing cruise missles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly."

70 million disagreed with him when this poll was taken last year. The numbers, if taken today, would be pushing 100 million or more. Everyone from Wes Clark to multiplying amounts of CIA defectors are calling for a new investigation daily. I'm afraid the tide has turned, my friend.

Close to half (48%) agrees the U.S. government and 9/11 Commission are not covering up anything, yet nearly as many (42%) believe the government and 9/11 Commission are covering up. One in ten (10%) is unsure

You'll never get the backers of the official story to acknowledge this. They still pretend it's the Fall of 2001, when everyone had to assume it was Bin Laden and friends, and no one could criticize the president, like he was some kind of a god. It's 6 years later, and you've got high level people coming out questioning the official story, even openly saying it's laughable, and still you have these idiots saying there can be no talk of a U.S. cover-up, which of course could mean U.S. involvement (after all, a cover-up would entail the public not having all the information about an event).

These guys probably still believe the U.S. was justified in going into Vietnam. What a bunch of patriotic loons. I at least understand if they were born into the U.S., where everyone is programmed to believe that America is the bastion of Freedom for the world, and they have trouble making the mental leap that their own government does not have their interests at heart, and could never allow or participate in the bombing of their own citizens.

Canadians on the other hand, like MM2 and Jinju, I find their close-mindedness ludicrous.

But I already sense a sea-change in the lot of you brain-washed lapdogs, as it is slowly but inevitably dawning on you that there are actually a lot of high level people in the U.S. and other governments that know much, much more than has been allowed up to this point to be made public. It's funny that you actually thought the truth was already in the public realm. Your naivety is childish. Or, if you are like Ya-Ta, you believe that any cover-up was only so as to shield the public from the government's failings on 9-11, which is a mystifying leap of logic, as it assumes that what is unknown, is known. "I don't know the truth, but I do know that when the truth comes out, it will show Bush is only guilty of incompetency."

Keep drinking the red, white, and blue kool aid. That dull pain you feel is the kick to the nuts you're getting as the latest CIA agent comes forward to claim a cover-up or conspiracy.

some people take this freedom of speech thing too far towards obnoxious. Sure boo, state your point, state your thoughts, but denying another from speaking in the name of freedom of speech is mind boggling. And that was so not a forum for anyone to speak, someon can't just barge into your living room and demand you listen to him/her for the sake of freedom of speech. Although I do wish Maher would discuss the issue sometimes, I don't think he ever has given it enough time, i'm sure he argues it's not worth giving time but whateva...

He is a liberal libertarian, and what he says is quite consistant with that position. Those people have been harrassing him for a long time, and his response, which by the way was not "rage" as IGTG incorrectly stated, was appropriate. This is not a free speech issue. They were there to disrupt the program, not to heckle in a humourous way.

I also think he is very astute and informed and puts his position very well.

Long a pedantic smart-ass, your great pop-culture hero has now shown himself to be little more than a phony NWO 9/11 Zionist shill.

If people ever had any doubts, his true colours have certainly been revealed Idea
i know i now see Mr. Mayer in a WHOLE NEW LIGHT.

Yes, maybe Bill needs a pill. He should also strongly consider taking on a few EGO management classes.

Perhaps he'd be best off starting with a few little deep-breathing meditation sessions.

Nobody should lie & then try & pass it off as truth. If they do & are BUSTED for it, they should either apologize or be held properly accountable.

When will 'liberal' Bill host an open 9/11 forum on his wonderful show?

Really can't see the elephant eh?
