I do not own an IPOD, but I am considering buying one. I would like to have something with around 16 gigs. Is it better to simply by a 30 gig video IPOD or the Itouch. Some say the Itouch is too pricey. What are IPODs running at Costco? I haven't been to Costco lately to check... |

Apple products are pretty similar in a given region. since price fixing is illegal quite a few places, Apple has an "agreement" with their distributors that MSRP should be respected. so i don't think it really matters where you get your Apple products, the price difference should be minimal. |

Don't buy an iPod at Costco. They add 10% VAT to their prices. You will save buying it online, with free delivery. (You'll need korean help).
Or go to COEX.
Also, i think the 16gig iPod Touch is worth the price. It has a larger screen for video, wi-fi and internet capability, and lots of room for new features to be added in the future. |

I don't know where you are getting your information, but it's wrong.
The price you see at Costco for the 80gig Classic is 265,000 won. Yes, that includes the 10% VAT, just like every price you see everywhere.
For further comparison, danawa.com has the lowest price of the Classic at 275,000 won.
Finally, Costco probably has the best return policy of any place in Korea, so, all else being equal, it makes sense to buy from there. |

All I know is that everything I ever bought at the daegu costco does NOT include the VAT. I examined my bill and noticed it was added on at the end. |

Why an Ipod, there are lots of other choices out there which don't limit you to Apple's restrictive policies. |

Because it just works, and the UI is easy to navigate if you have a large collection. I don't know what restrictive policies there are besides "forcing" me to use iTunes (which is the best audio jukebox software I've ever used).
I can see buying something else if you don't want to put a lot of music on there, but if you plan on keeping your whole music collection on a portable media device the iPod is your best option IMO. |

Here is what happened. Let's say you bought something. The tag said 99,000 won. You get your receipt. The item you wanted is probably listed as 90,000 won and the tax is listed at 9,000 won. The price you see on a tag or display always has tax included. |

Does the 80 Gig classic have video. Can you put movies on them?
The Itouch sounds nice, but I am not sure if it is worth the price tag at 399 US (I checked on amazon). I am not sure how how much it would cost in Korea. How common is Wi-fi access for the Itouch. I am not sure I really need the internet functions so much since I have a computer at home and can go to a PC-Bang, and you have to be at a place with Wi-fi. Now, with I-pods can you with no problem transfer all your songs that you've downloaded if they didn't come from I-tunes? I also have some language CDs I want to burn and put on there....
Thanks.. |

Yes, the classic has video. Yes, you can put movies on them.
There are thousands of wi fi hotspots in seoul alone.
I don't have any problem downloading from Frostwire, for example, to my iPod. |

The 8 gig iTouch is 324,000 won or so, if that influences your decision at all.
Also, the video on the Classic isn't all that great. The screen size isn't bad, but it doesn't have the best color I've seen. |

The ipod touch is a really slick unit. Watching movies on it is better than before (much better), the safari browser is as good as it gets for mobile browsing, the cover flow interface is really nice (much better than on the classic or nano) and the form factor is stunning. If you dont really need the higher capacity do yourself a favor and go for the touch you wont regret it. If you are looking for a dedicated video player I would suggest taking a look at archos as well. |

I was looking at the touch I-pod in COEX, but wasn't overly convinced. Mind you some clown had set the language to Prussian or some such, so I couldn't understand the error messages I was getting.
What's it like for connecting to the internet? It seemed limited to me, apart from youtube and google, nothing else was coming up. For those who know, is this the case or can you freely roam online? Can you use java applets on the I-Touch?
I've been thinking a portable means of getting online would be helpful. What other options are there besides I-Touch?? |
