Even though I'm on an F-2 visa, I don't tutor because of the fact that I work for a public university. I would venture to guess most don't register with the tax office and maybe 30-40% do. I've seen at least one person on here advocate not doing so (I won't say who). That particular person has the attitude that because he is on one of the two visas that the op mentioned that they couldn't do anything about it. It's unfortunate that someone would say something like that because it gives foreigners even more of a blackeye then we already have given the bad media coverage.

I don't know much about the government here but they take a pretty dim view on tax evasion where I come from.

I registered recently and was the first to do so in my area. I can now freely advertise my study room without worry. My wife has had several phone calls over the past few days from a local hagwon owner saying that I am not permitted to teach in my home, I can't get a tutoring license and that he is going to report me.
If I hadn't registered, I would have been worried. I say the tax is a small price to pay for the security and peace of mind.

Same happened to me, but once they realize all your papers are in order they scamper quickly.

These vigilantes are just very insecure about the future of their crapwon anyway.

He won't be reporting you thats for sure, because then they will be checking his hagwon too. He is just trying to scare you.
