I sure wish I had the straight dope on why Korean beer is so headache-inducing, particularly the draft.
I thought I was just getting old 'til I came back to Canada and had a night out on the town: the next morning was pure pleasure in comparison to an o-bek-cc bender. |

Same here. Korean draft beer gives me the worst headache after just four glasses. As for the earlier Stout comments...Do any of you guys remember about three years ago when Stout first came out? I do and the taste was completely different from what it is now. It wasn't a stout then at all, closer to Red Rock actually. But it was a good beer for every day drinking. Then it dissapeared off the shelves and was replaced with the choco-caramel hite.
A while back some company tried Ginseng beer and I thought that was pretty good, especially for summer camping and beach trips. Sadly it only lasted for a couple of months.
Imports are appearing in Jenju more and more, which is nice. Hoegaarden (sp), Leffe', Grolsh, and Sapporo can all be found at the Ministop and the LG25. Yeah they're more expensive but IMO, worth the price. |

simulated stereo...are you telling me that The Hite Stout now resembles a stout in taste? Or that the taste has merely changed. I recall it being more brown ale/porter style than red rock, but perhaps I should revisit if it has had a make over and stoutened up...what's the word? (though I'm quite sure I'll be investigating it personally before reading your response...). |

Neither the current nor the former stout comes close to being "a stout". But the earlier version at least had a good taste and held up to repeated drinking. |

I see that Hite Prime is being marketed pretty aggressively on TV. Has anybody seen it in the bars, as they show how it is drunk on TV. At first I thought I would like it, and the taste is OK, but it gave me the same feeling as draft, which I will not go near like the plague.
Second point (about bring up this old tread,) I really like the new labels on the Capri bottle. They have been out for some time, only now writing it down. |

The Stout tastes like a lager with a little bit of Stout flavoring thrown in along with some black food coloring (doesn't have anything resembling the thickness of a real stout). Its OK to drink occasionally if a bar has it on tap for a decent price, otherwise no... |

i like the brew offerings from Japan: Asahi and Sapporo.both fine beers yet the large 600ml can is 5500w. |

I don't know if anyone has been to Walmart, but they have quite a large selection of imported beers. They were the first to carry Molson Canadian.
Last time I was there, I saw about 15-20 imported bottles/cans.
However I am not too much into drinking, so I don't have names etc. |

I like the Sapporo Silver Cup too, if that is the Sapporo you are talking about. It is almost two full beers, (Yumm) But the cost is out outrageous at 12,000 won at any bar, once saw it for 10,000. But as you say, it is cheaper at the Super Markets. |

Is there something wrong with my tongue? After the first bottle of beer, I can't taste it, no matter how much I pay for a prestige imported beer. As far as I can tell, alcohol is alcohol in any packaging. It all strikes me like the guy who sold his bike to buy a Grandeur so he could drive down to the corner Mom & Pop shop. |

My take is that Korean beer is extremely bland. The alcoholic percentages are low and so there is limited taste. Australian beers a lot stronger and a lot better tasting(however, Fosters is horse piss).
I drink Sapporo, Stella and the occasional Corona here |

I'm not a fan of most Korean beers, but I also don't find them horrible. In a pinch, a Cass or an OB do fine enough.
Why not try home brewing, though, if the Korean options don't appeal and imports cost too much? Yes there's an initial expense, but it's great hobby, and supplies are very easily purchased thanks to places like Seoul Home Brew and Craftbrewer in Pusan.
Also, there are many other expats making some phenomenal home brew (not me, yet; however, I love doing it as a hobby). So if you need to lean on people for advice/info, there's no shortage.
Don't think your place is too small either. No need to make 19L (about 5 gallon) batches. Ten liter (2.5 gallons) batches are great and net plenty of beer (10 liters equals about 28 twelve ounce bottles).
