It was cool to watch. But...the intense reaction from the commentators and crowd over some creative broken play and player spontaneity was a little surprising.

Now, cut the team in half, find a bigger ball and do it again, then we'll talk.

Hilarious. You would think after about the 5th time the other team would catch on and just tackle everyone near the ball.

That just looked pathetic. Piss poor play that turned out very lucky. Oh well, that's American football for ya.

For those who think this was a piss poor play, or a broken play, or whatever, could you devise a simpler play to score that touchdown?

that play reminds one of the historical connection of the game with rugby

the hail mary pass: go deep and fast and throw a long bomb, receiver vs. cornerback, one on one

A division III quarterback (probably) doesn't have the arm strength to throw it that far (not many pros do either). Also it wouldn't be a one on one situation, since the defense drops back about 8 players to defend the Hail Mary. He'd just be throwing it into a crowd of mostly defenders around the 20-25 yard line or so. That would also be a miracle: for your player to catch it and escape everyone to the endzone. Hence the term Hail Mary.

If they were close enough to the endzone for the QB to reach it, then yes, try a Hail Mary. Still not easy though. In this situation, with no time left, this is really the only thing they could have done to win the game.

Reminded me of the New Orleans-Jacksonville game a few years back when the Saints had that crazy play at the end and scored a touchdown, and the kicker missed the extra point right after that, that would've tied the game and kept their playoff hopes alive. Watched that live on TV, and don't think I'll see anything like that again.

Sorry for the long memories.
