Hi. Can anyone tell me the rules on leaving and not being fined. i have an e-2 visa and my contract will end soon. i arrived on jan 9th 2007 and i can see jan 9th 2008 on my alien card. is that the day i'd HAVE to leave korea or is it the day before the last day? because my passport says i entered 9th jan 2007, there surely if i leave on 9th jan 2008 then that's 366 days isn't it? thanks.

It should give an expiration date for you visa. Check your E2. What does it say? Its probably on the 9th, but better check to be sure.

If it seems like its expiring sooner than you want, you can get it extended by up to 2 weeks at the immigration office, free of charge.

You have until midnight on the last date indicated on your ARC to leave the country. If the date indicated on your ARC is Jan. 9. 2008 then you have until 23:58 on the 9th to get to the passport counter to exit the country (it takes a minute or 2 to process you and mark you outbound).

Is that the max you can get it extended? I didn't start working until May 28th, but my ARC expires May 2nd. I can't see my public school springing for another visa run...

A contract extension is 30k won and can be from 1 day to 1 year. Get your co-teacher to prepare the documents. The list is on the http://www.g4f.go.kr website .
