I'm actually wondering how much I should be expected to pay. Thai Air's website quoted 1.4 million. There's no way I'm paying that for a 6 hour flight, especially when I paid less than 700k this past July.

The trick with finding affordable tickets Incheon to Bangkok in peak season is to firstly forget the non stop Korean Air, Thai Airways and Asiana flights. Every man and their ajumma wants to get on those and the fares and waiting lists blow out accordingly.

THEN ... you look for non-direct combinations (generally via China) such as:

Air China (via any of: Beijing, Chongqing or Chengdu)
Cebu Pacific (via Manila)
China Airlines (via Taipei)
China Eastern (via any of: Kunming, Nanjing, Qindao or Shanghai)
China Southern (via Guangzhou)
Eva Air (via Taipei)
Uni Air (via Kaoshiung)
Hainan Airlines (via Haikou)
Air Macau (via Macau)
Air Bagan (Incheon to Yangon non stop from Dec 7, 2007)
Malaysia Airlines (via KL)
Vietnam Airlines (via Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi)
Xiamen Airlines (via Fuzhou or Xiamen)
Royal Brunei (via Bander Seri Begawan)
Orient Thai Airways (direct and cheap, although rarely available)
Korean Air (try it ex-Daegu or ex-Busan - reservations may be less congested)

In summary, expect that K travel agents *will* tell you all flights are booked out for ICN-BKK. Don't believe them.

Unless they have tried the 25 odd combinations above, they haven't exhausted all the available possibilities.

By using that formula, they *will* eventually find an itinerary that is (a) available and (b) somewhat affordable.

^Yep, this is true. And even on the major airlines like Thai Air or Korean Air the seats are not all sold out --- they are just reserved by the agents themselves. They won't all sell. A few years ago I was on a Thai Air Flight during the Lunar Holiday and there were at least 20 empty seats. Don't believe these travel agents.

I went through Kangsan Travel this time around, they got me a flight on China Eastern to Thailand for 720k. It's a bit more because I'll be there longer than a month.

520,000 won? If you get that price, I'd be surprised.

Travel Agents are in full price-gouging mode right now.

Believe it...that is what i paid yesterday on Thai Air.....
I am going to Thailand in low season and coming back a week before Christmas so just missing the shoulder season so i would expect it to be cheap.
