This is really embarrassing. A marine captain doesn't know that FDR is the only president to get elected 4 times. Do they not educated the officer corp in the USA on WWII history?

I saw that. Teddy Roosevelt was the only president to be elected four times. Most of the military seems a little undereducated anyway (like most of the population).

Yeap...

Almost as embarrassing as uneducated morons believing all the conspiracy theories on 9/11.

Ummm.......it was his cousin Franklin that was elected four times. Teddy was around at the turn of the century, not during WWII.

Yeah, I watched that. I, however, am not American and have never bothered about American history.

What bugs me is that the show seems awfully easy. Granted, I would have to guess a lot of that stuff, but I wouldn't say remembering those facts is a measure of intelligence.

And I hated the clapping. 'Oh, look, you're a dumb@$$'- clap, clap

Every damn year my history teachers spent too much time fing around with the Revolutionary War/ 1700's, and the Civil War/ 1800's, so by the time we got to the 20th century, it was mid-May. School ended around Memorial Day, so we spent MAYBE 10 days studying the 20th century. I didn't know there had even been a war in Korea until after I graduated high school (I didn't watch MASH, btw- always thought that had been about Vietnam)...

Shocked Crying or Very sad So yeah, I didn't know the answer to that question, and I'm not surprised he didn't know either, military or not.

You're not American and you don't know our language, history, geography, etc.?! That's just F'n unforgiveable!

I once met a Canadian that could play the U.S. national anthem on the piano. Hell, Americans have become so lazy that foreigners even play in American "patriotic" movies. If you don't believe me then check out Black Hawk Down (I'm surprised the whole movie wasn't spoken in a British accent!), The Patriot (Australians), 3:10 to Yuma (British and Australian), etc. That's just embarrassing...and now we have ignorant yahoos leading soldiers and flying Apaches, Cobras, bomber aircraft (nukes over the U.S.). I had a platoon leader (officer) relieved for getting her groove on with the platoon sergeant (also relieved) and another platoon leader repremanded for losing a top secret code book, thankfully it was a training mission and a fictitious code book. It's a sad state of affairs...

With a sentence like that you'd think they don't educate ESL instructors either!

You're right. I made a typo. Happens. But I would really hope that an officer in the American military would have a grasp about WWII history and recent history about the C&Cs of his military.

After watching that show once or twice I lost interest, because I really thought it was rigged or a set up. Something in my mind makes me want to think that grown men and women can't feasibly be that dumb. Especially an officer in the military.

Granted, there are a few question that come out of parts of textbooks that you may overlook, such as "What party was Henry Clay affiliated with?" that are tricky for everyone.
