English Speaking Game Using A Two Person Dialogue
1) The teacher or a student writes down the questions and responses on the board. For example:
SHOPKEEPER: May I help you?
CUSTOMER: Yes. Im looking for a shirt.
Optionally, only one side of the dialogue can be written on the board- which would cut down the writing in half. For example, only write the lines the Customer would say.
2) The teacher splits the class into two teams.
3) One student from each team comes up front to the board.
4) The teacher or a selected student will then say one set of the dialogue; for example: May I help you? Then the two students would attempt to strike the proper answer on the board with their hand or plastic hammers: Yes. Im looking for a shirt.
6) The student who strikes the correct answer/question first then must orally say the sentence. Or, the teacher can have a student from his team in the audience who must then say the correct sentence. If the speaker fails to say the sentence correctly then the other team may have a chance to answer and get a point.
This game is excellent to involve an unresponsive apathetic class. However, pair or group work may be more productive if the class is already very attentive and motivated. But, in cases where the students are tired, unmotivated, and bored this game will prove to provide at least some minimal learning.
My other favorite is doing duck duck goose with cards - but the students say : apple, pear, monkey, pig, cow, according to the card- when kid says 'dog' instead of 'pig' it equates to him doing a 'goose' rather than a 'duck'... good for young kids... |
