Does anyone know: when friends and family from home are dialling my Korean cellphone, do they drop the "0" at the beginning of my number?

I would appreciate all tips on this topic as there seems to be some difficulty in getting through to me.

Thanks.

Drop the "zero", but you still need the country code and such.

Yes (and the same applies to city codes- drop the '0' off of '032' or '02' for example) so if you were using 018 service, you would dial 011-82-18-XXX-XXXX... oh crap, do you need to use the Seoul area code when trying to dial a cell phone from abroad? Confused Then it would be 011-822-18-XXX-XXXX.

you only need the seoul area code when dialing a land line in Seoul

011-82-2-xxx-xxxx (seoul land line)
011-82-11-xxx-xxxx (011 cell phone)

this presumes you are calling from North America... callers from other countries will use thier own international dialing code instead of 011.

Okay, I'm on Jeju. The area code here is 64. If my family and friends in North America want to call my 019 cellphone, what do they dial? 011-82-64-19-XXX-XXXX? Or 011-82-19-XXX-XXXX?

Thanks all!

The latter -- the area code is only needed with a homephone. But I'm unclear on the rest of this. The 011 indicates an international call? Is it the same from Canada?

Yeah, the 011 is what you dial in Canada in order to make an international call (here in Korea it is 001 or 002). Then 82 is the country code and the rest is my phone number.
