Do they even exist, or are there never any jobs available? I can never seem to find one. All the public school jobs I see posted (and when recruiters email me) are for some rural town, which I'm not interested in.
Furthermore, most of them say 14 days vacation, when all I hear is how great the vacation is for public schools. What gives? Does it differ from school to school? |

There are plenty of public school jobs, but most are not in Seoul itself. Plenty within the province of Gyeonggi-do though.
14 days is the standard vacation. It used to be a lot more until some bright spark at the education ministry decided to hogwonise govt. schools here. |

Public schools in Seoul are mostly covered by SMOE / ETIS (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and English Teachers In Seoul program).
http://etis.sen.go.kr/
There are a few that hire outside of ETIS and Gangnam OE does its own hiring.
ETIS mostly hires in mid summer for August starts. Then offer 21 WORKING days of paid annual holiday (as of the new 2007/08 contracts).
GEPIK is the government office that does the bulk of the hiring for Gyeonggi public schools (including places like Bundang and Suwon). Most (but not all) of them are in the suburbs and satellite cities of Seoul.
They offer 14 WORKING days (not including Sat., Sun or national holidays) of annual paid vacation. You can also bank your overtime into additional vacation time
AND all public schools offer an additional 2 calendar weeks of paid vacation at the end of the term if you re-sign (along with airfare home and back).
EPIK is similar to GEPIK but is all the provinces located outside of Seoul and Gyeonggi.
All public schools will be on their winter break from the end of December until the end of Jan or in some cases, end of Feb. Most will have few or no classes during that time. They may have winter day-camps in mid/late January.
If you are trying to get into a public school now, your chances of landing something close to Seoul are slim (but not impossible). There will be a major hiring period again in January for the spring term.

This re-signing thing for 2 extra weeks should be clarified. Apparently you only get the 2 wees of additional paid vacation only if you re-sign at the same school that you're currently at. If you re-sign with GEPIK, but change schools then you're SOL and won't be getting any extra vacation time. |

There was an add in the Daves job section about teaching in elementary schools in Gangnam not so long ago. 2.5mil etc the usual. But in Gangnam so parents will complain a lot and most likely a lot will be asked of you and they will never be happy. |

SMOE hires twice a year from what I understand and there seem to be many jobs available... if you want to teach elementary or middle school. |
