The reason I ask is that if you have a bachelors and 1 year of teaching experience at an accredited institution, it puts you in level 2. If so, how do you verify experience to a POE or EPIK?

I know it counts with GEPIK. Just get your hagwon to write a letter that verifies the amount of time that you have taught there.

It does count if it was a full-time position and you finished a one year contract. Before I started working for EPIK this year I obtained a letter from my old FT hagwon and my previous PS.

I heard that it only counts as 1/2 if it is a hogwon.. so you would need 2 yrs experience (hogwon experience) to equal 1 public school year experience.

I don't think that is true. I submitted two letters, one for PS one for a hagwon, along with my teaching qualification I am on level 1.

I remember also emailing EPIK about this and getting the reply that yes hagwon experience is accepted but it must be a completed full-time one year contract. My years of part-time multiple jobs didn't count.

Ask your former employers for a certificate of employment. It will list where and when you worked for them.

It didn't count at all for me, so I started at a Level 2 only because of my teaching degree in Jeollanamdo.

I know this is true for some universities, but I think it's a joke if a PS follows through with this

A little off-topic...

Alot of the the Korean teachers in the private (public) schools probably have spent time in hogwons. I personally know that 1 of my co-teachers spent time in a hogwon 10 years back, and another math teacher who has done time in a hogwon. Don't know how much that factored into them being hired though...

Do you mean private ( compulsory) schools, such as a private elementary or highschools?

I would consider a public school at any level one paid for by taxes and or run by the government.

Yes, private (compulsory) schools. I think they do get most of their funding from the government though. But, these schools have an owner.
