They changed the law afterwards, BECAUSE of FDR...
The presidents prior served two terms out of respect for tradition (George Washington), and also, some thought that serving more would defeat the purpose of the "democratic" government (and of course, most would never be elected to two).
FDR served four, because, well, times dictated it, I suppose. |
