WHy on earth would you buy a new mac less than a week before they release the latest OS?

Umm, did you even read my last post? I just said, I'm going to wait until the new OS is out.

I wasn't replying to you. I was replying to as-ian. I should have made that clearer earlier.

Why wouldnt i? Just to get leopard preinstalled and get the dvd with it? I am more than wiling to just pay the 10USD for leopard when it comes out.

EDIT: By 10USD, i mean the apple program for those who have bought a computer from oct. 1 who get that price for leopard.

Only ten bucks? Yet another reason to get a mac this time around.

Meh, macs are terribly overpriced. Especially in Korea (at least the 2 whole places I've seen them). You'll be able to get nearly twice the computer for the same price if you get a PC...

That 10 bucks only covers the shipping cost. That deal is only for customers who have bought a mac in the last month or so. THe real cost for leopard will be much higher.

Actually, ulsanchris, I don't know for sure but you may have picked the right choice. For $10 I think they'll send you a retail copy of Leopard, which you can install on all your Macs (if you have multiple Macs). Buying the system with Leopard installed doesn't give you that option, as the install discs will only work on your particular make and model of computer.

As opposed to what? Dell laptops, which are about $1000USD more for the same specs? I've yet to see another brand of laptop with the specs I'm looking for that could match the price of a mac.

But, as I said in my first post, I don't want to have the mac vs. the world argument on here. Just pm me with the details if you think I can find a better deal for something other than a mac.

All copies of mac os x have all localizations. You can buy it in korea or japan or in the usa and still change the system to any of the languages.

Apple doesn't jack up the prices, Korea does.

actually they both do. there's a reason why Apple products are priced almost identically in one region, regardless of which Apple dealer you go to.

The high prices for Macs in Korea are not only do to custom duties, but also to the lack of volume.

I don't think that Apple sets one price for everything. Prices for Macs are not the same at every store in Japan.

Just to add my 2 cents:

Macs are cheaper in Korea then they are in Canada. Reason: Canada has WAY too much tax and we don't do the big cash discounts that Korean retailers do.

Wife got her mac for 100 bux cheaper than Canada BEFORE even adding taxes (which would have been around another 150 bux)

Check enuri for the cheapest Mac guys, goto their shop and BARGAIN. It is possible to get a good price.

Noticed that also. The exchange rate isn't helping either.
Apple Korea discounts a further 3-5% if you order by phone. And the computer will be made in Singapore and shipped to you for free.

Pm sent.

And not trying to create a debate, but one thing I have to mention is that US brands will also tend to be overpriced here. Look at Samsung, LG or better yet the no-name korean brands. Those will be cheapest.

Can't say that I agree with you about that. Samsung retail products seem to be grossly overpriced in Korea for what they are. Off-brand Korean brands maybe, but Samsung? Maybe I'm wrong Confused .
