YES Youngdo is a horrible mass corporation that will work you double the hours that regular teachers work.
Use search function. Type in Youngdo. |

If most teachers work 4 hours per day prep/teaching then yes, they do work you twice as much as any other school.
Youngdo has benefits and drawbacks, just like any other hogwon. Here are a few of the things I disliked about Youngdo:
1. 3 hour classes on Tuesday Thursday.
2. Placing students in levels that are waaayyy above what the students are cabable of. In turn, the students get poor marks, and their Mother pulls them out of the school.... Which is of course your fault.
3. Extremely heavy emphasis on student retention rates, which they publish in a monthly campus newspaper with the teacher's name and their percentage of student retention. In the opinion of the company if your retention rate is low you're a bad teacher.
4. The encourage you to lie about students' grades. The minimum grade we're allowed to give is "C".
5. Essay grading for Sr. level students... Very time consuming.
6. They don't give a f*** if the students learn anything, only after money.
Some of the positives about Youngdo:
1. Lessons are almost entirely planned for you... Most of the 2 hour prep time is reserved for surfing the Internet and essay marking.
2. High housing allowance... if you choose to find your own housing (400 000-500 000). |
