Even those who are not overweight should slim down if they want to cut their risk of cancer, a major international study has claimed.

The World Cancer Research Fund carried out the largest ever inquiry into lifestyle and cancer, and issued several stark recommendations.

They include not gaining weight as an adult, avoiding sugary drinks and alcohol, and not eating bacon or ham.

Cut out bacon?!

The flip side of that is that cancer survival rates tend to be better for people with a little extra weight. .

crazy music playing in the morning light

it's magic, you know
never believe, it's not so

i love my sunny day
dream of far away
dreaming on my pillow in the morning
never been awake
never seen a day break
leaning on my pillow in the morning light

ho, ho, ho
it's magic, you know
never believe it's not so
it's magic, you know
never believe, it's not so

Get the cancer, and then you can eat all of the bacon you want!

Let's see intelligent design rationalize that one out!

I'm not surprised, and I think they could have come up with a much stronger set of recommendations. I also doubt very much that two-thirds of all cancer cases are impossible to prevent. Rolling Eyes

The wishy-washy tone of this article really aggravates me. Evil or Very Mad

Cancer is a mutation in within your DNA is it not? So, you get cancer because you have a genetic predisposition passed on from a parent, a ray of sunshine hits you in the butt and mutates one of your normally kick ass genetic sequences, you ingest/are exposed a carcinogenic which mutates your normally fine DNA or a mistake happens during the cell replication process.

Is it a fact that fat people ingest more carcinogens? I don't know. If not, I don't see how your weight has any bearing on your likelyhood of getting cancer.

From what I understand, it has to do with higher levels of certain hormones, which help cancer cells grow. Mutations happen all the time, but under healthy conditions our bodies do away with the cancer cells before they become a problem. I'll see if I can find some links.

no link, but its what the oncologists, surgeons and the dietitian have been telling my mom, and apparently it's common knowledge. Part of the reason marijuana is used for cancer patients is because it increases their appetite, and when you're undergoing chemo, forcing anything down and getting it to stay down is quite a battle

Thanks for the information. I hope your mother will come out of this all right.
