I thought it would be nice to have a thread without the bickering (if that's possible). I eat in the cafeteria, go out with Korean coworkers, play sports with other Korean teachers, and do my best to practice Korean every day.

I'm no angel, but I feel like I am helping to contribute to the good name of foreigners. What are you doing to help our reputations, if anything?

I tore my mouth-breathing co-teacher a new one yesterday for asking me if I thought the female students at my middle school wearing mini-skirts were 'sexy'.

I do several of the following:

1) study Japanese in my spare time
2) play WWE with the boys
3) bring my own western food during lunch
4) walk around with a t-shirt saying 개고기 free-zone

So the answer to the question is, you don't.

Oh so witty replies, as always. I just act the same as I always would. I still haven't joined those kumdo classes, learned much more Korean than the first year or fulfilled many other promises I had made myself.

However, I don't feel guilty in the slightest, as I a still intend to accomplish these goals, and, in the meantime, have a a great time.

Like hundreds of teachers, I probably give us a good name by not being arrogant or ignorant. Oh, I do a language exchange, unselfishly, of course. Go me. I wish I could say I took second clothes to an orphanage once a week, but that's someone else. Damn them and their ways! This thread would be a piece of piss!

I constantly seek approval from every Korean that I meet and modify my personality and lifestyle according to their whims. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what will!

This thread is stoopid.

It's not about seeking approval dumbass. It's about treating your host country with respect. For the less mature I can understand why the concept might seem "stoopid."

Imagine if you replaced every occurrence of the word "Koreans" on this board with "Americans" or "Brits." Then you'd see how racist and xenophobic many of the posters here are.

Well during the last 60 years, foreigners have sacrificed their lives to save this country, fed orphans and starving people, provided a HUGE amount of foreign aid (Korea one of the largest recipents ever), opened markets to Korean products, yet many still don't like us.
The more you give, the more some elements in this country hate us.
Personally , I wouldn't bother. How often do foreigner good deeds make the Korean press?

I dress well and have good taste in music. All Koreans walk around saying "Wow, that well-dressed foreigner has great taste in music." and immediately our PR quotient goes from "lowest-common-denominator" to "what dashing, exotic towers of occidental manhood".
