To buy some Rold Gold pretzles and a few other things.

She packed my ill-gotten goods in an AAFES shopping bag.

That's one ballsy ajumma

I do find that the black market shops are becoming more and more unneeded here as the Korean market internationalizes.

I didn't notice any.

Funnily enough, they seem to be running low on just about everything. Lots of empty space on the shelves. Unless I showed up in between shipments.

Several new packs of Trojans and KY for you young fellows out there.

That place is sooooo expensive. There are so many other options to get foreign goods in this country. 3800 for a can of refried beans? 8,000 for a stick of deodorant? Ridiculous.

I refuse to go to some shady black-market, over-priced, hole-in-the-wall, foreign goods market in this year of 2007. Why is that place still open?? Don't they realize Korea is all global and sparkling now!!!!?

The Red Door is just another example of how Koreans stick it to the USA.

I think those of us who do go there do it because it was the only way to get certain stuff. Even in my time here, which is bordering on six years now, I've seen the changes in what's available in the local shops. I can't imagine what the differences would be like for guys like Jongno Guru who have been here since the Chosun era.

AAFES

Since the red door is a black market shop, she's re-selling goods taken from the US military bases. I figure she's feeling pretty secure since what she's doing is basically stealing the Mona Lisa and then hanging it in the window of her shop across the street from the Louvre.

That is true. Assuming you can find a woman who wants to look at our shiny balding heads...

I'm sure those items were paid for. I think it's stupid that items purchased can't legally be sold to someone else. I thought the USA was a capitalist country. I know there are probably tax issues, but they're just wasting that money anyhow.

America is about as capitalist as China is communist.
