It says in Korean that they have to send a health report proving no drugs, and they have to do a 2nd check in Korea at a designated hospital.

It also says hagwon owners will receive a heavier punishment (but doesn't specify what) for hiring illegals.

TWO medical checks?! So everyone MUST go back home that is currently here just to get checked by a doctor and talk to the Korean Embassy guy in our home countries? Amazing.

It doesn't get that specific about people currently in country.
It just says what it says. It is just talking about people coming to Korea to teach.
It does sound like they are doing away with visa runs to other countries. |

What about people recruited in Korea? Do I have to leave Korea and fly back to my country of origin for a 10 minute chat with some ajosshi in a consulate??
If this is true, then the game is well and truly over for Korea.
the police check is reasonable: this is ludicrous. Sorry, a teaching job in Korea just ain't that much of a prize... |

INDEED! As I've been saying, I predict a MASS exodus of ESL Teachers out of Korea come Dec. and well into 2008. Korean Immigration doesn't give a rat's arse about foreigners. They'd prefer it if they didn't have to process any E2 visas, period. They really do NOT want foreigners in Korea in the first place. If this makes less work on them because of the low number of applications to process, they'd be VERY happy!!! |
