This answer may be some where here, but I can not find it by using "search".

I want to inquire about my pension. My korean friend called for me, and he was told he can not do it, I should call. the number is 1355, and ask for English.

SURE. I called, and I got "No Englishee", and they hung up. I called back, and was told, "Sorry, I can't speak English".

Now, if a friend can not call for me, and they do not speak English, what is my next plan?

Can you call the NPS office in Seoul to inquire on your account balance and deposits made by your employer if you are not living in Seoul?

Here is the head office in Seoul info, I am going to try it soon. I know they must have English speaking staff as it's the executive level who usually do speak English. It tends to go that the highest ranking are who come out to talk when I do things in Korea since they are often the only few English speaking individuals. (fingers crossed they can make inquiries on any NPS account in Korea)

How to get there : Get off at Chamsil Station of Subway Line 2. Take Exit No. 8. Walk straight about 100 meters and then turn left. You can see our 7-story gray building in front of you. Go to the 6th floor.

The other thing to check is that your health insurance deposits were made by your employer. I understand you can have and use insurance without paying for it and then be slapped with a big bill when your next job applies for your new insurance card.

I went on Tuesday to the Gimpo office to file for my pension refund. The guy told me that I can only get a check sent to me, NOT a direct deposit, even though I had a voided check with my bank info on it.

He said I needed a list of wire transfers that I've made from Korea to that account if I want them to wire my money to my bank. Where do I get a "list"? And how out-of-left-field is that request? It wasn't on the list of things to bring to the office and I've never heard anybody mention it on the boards.

Anyway, I've never made a wire transfer, so he said it's "impossible." Now was that just a random obstacle thrown up by someone who didn't want to deal with me, or is it standard procedure?

I will call them. I finish this current contract Jan 14. I can not get to the office because I work from 10;20 until 4 or 5. But I am staying a week or 2 (yes, I will extend my visa cause it expires a week before the contract ends)after the job to see friends and do some shopping.

Thank you so much for the fax number. I am so glad that when i went home in September I opened a checking account. Now I have to ask dad to send me the account number, as I did not bring it here.

And a note for new people, or even for people around for awhile, make sure your school is paying . I know people who have paid into the pension fund but their school never did. Also I am quite sure that my first school did not pay into the fund.

Also me the idiot never saved recieps for my monthly Saturday, 2 schools never gave receipts, and I stupidly did not care. I guess I can have them checked out because their schools are in my passport.

An american couple who recently left took a plane ticket (e-ticket), their KOREAN bank account info and a letter from their academy stating that they had finished their contract to the office and had their pensions deposited into their Korean accounts within TWO business days. Beats waiting weeks and weeks.

PGF I kinda find that story hard to believe. I am not saying that you are not telling us what they told you, it just seems to me that that was pretty fast. If that was the case I am sure everyone would stay here an extra 4 days.

The sticky thread "pension refund" is at the top of this page. Pension refunds are given within a week into Korean bank accounts, according to a woman at the office next to Godoek Station (lines 5 and 6 in Seoul). I went there about 8-9 months ago.
