Ah! Arirang TV is good for something other than the latest Wonder Girls video. They did a history of this An Jung Geun guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Jung-geun
It's said he cut off a finger and wrote "Korean Independence" in blood on the Korean flag. Wonder if he wrote in in hanguel.
So next time you see Koreans cutting their finger off for some bizarre reason, like D-War DVD sales don't crack the top 10 or Rain is convicted for diddling little boys on his Never Never Land Ranch, you'll know they're emulating the actions of a Korean independence fighter. |

Do you think the Korean cabbie who killed himself over the KORUS FTA has regrets? |

They cut off their fingers, because they are too afraid to cut off their peppers. |

the guy who killed himself over the FTA was just plain stupid. But I can understand the finger cutting from the independency fighter. I see nothing wrong with a dovoted nationalist to sacrifice his bodypart to motivate and commit other Koreans in the independence movement. |

I've heard before that in parts of Asia, it's considered a shame to someone if you hurt yourself in front of them. Hence the self-immolation of the monks during Vietnam, and other shenanigans. |

Also in Korea by cutting off your finger you become entitled to disability insurance and cheaper priority car-parking etc. For some it could even become more beneficial to lose a finger than it was to have it. |
