Physical punishment is too much work. I resort to psychological punishment. Make them stand in the front of the room with their arms up, facing the class for an hour while you continue to teach. There are others but recently I've been using that one. Might not work on the younger kids though. |

There are three kinds of punishments i inflict.
1. "A touch with my finger on his shoulder", to show that I am watching him from now on.
2. "A Flick on the head", if he repeats the same bad behaviour
3. "Snakebite", if he keeps acting out of order A snake bite is by holding the wrist with both hands and moving the hands in opposite direction, quickly, no need for force. |

I somehow don't need to punish. Maybe it's because I've been at the same hagwon for almost three years. I don't touch the kids unless it's a pat on the shoulders for a job well done or "It's ok. Don't worry about it." |

Nah, a few things work for me:
1. Look like you enjoy being there. If you don't want to be there, why should they? Always be upbeat even if you're exhaused and teaching a pack of retards.
2. Radiate confidence. Act like you know what you're doing and you're not just some monkey/clown and maybe the kids will believe it. It is, of course, much easier to pull this off if the staff backs you up.
3. Avoid teaching younger kids like the plague, evil they be.
4. Never give in to whining. Be a nice person, play games sometimes but NEVER EVER do what the students whine for you to do.
Haven't had any serious discipline problems in a loooooooooooooooooooong time. |

For kindy i have lifted kids up to carry them out or to a different section of class, but this is a really rare occurrence and it's only with 2 real problem kids. I find myself hardly even disciplining anymore for the older kids, after the first month they mostly just fall into line and a reminder (hands up or the evil eye) every once in a while puts them back in line. |
