The local pharmacy. Al - cool.

95.5%+ ethanol, ~4% H2O, ~0.5% unknown by volume. Some is denatured = bad taste/smell added to prevent drinking so make sure you check BEFORE you drink it or use it in your cocktails.

If you want it for a lab burner, stove, or gas line antifreeze it works just fine right out of the bottle and is just about as cheap as soju.

rubbing alcohol can be found at most pharmacies. ask for 소독용 알코올 (literally, alcohol for disinfecting purposes).

I really have a bottle of Everclear. I'll trade it for absinthe, a bottle of.

My "ethanol for disinfection" says it is 76.9 - 81.4 v/v%

Rubbing alcohol in the US is usually 70% isopropyl. I don't know if
that is by weight or volume.

I use it to clean things.

Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol not ethanol.

Why would you want to and what is the other 20%? It may be denatured so you can;t drink it.

You can get cheap soju in the 2 liter plastic bottles at lotte mart, e-mart, home plus or any of the other large grocery stores for about 3000 won.

I'm curious, why the disclaimer about the chemical shop? what could possibly go wrong there?

Methanol is usually used for disinfecting, so unless you want to go blind or get poisoned, you shouldn't drink it.

Denatured alcohol is ethanol that has been made unfit for consumption by adding chemicals that will eventually kill you if you ingest them.

I read that an awful lot of people in Russia are dying of liver failure because they were sold what they thought was 'Russian moonshine' when in fact it was methylated spirits (a kind of denatured alcohol).

Rubbing alcohol is not nearly as toxic as methanol or ethylene glycol (car antifreeze), but it is twice as toxic as ethanol. So, you'll also get sick drinking it.

If you're out for a cheap buzz, stick with soju.

You can get 80% ethanol at a pharmacy. 95% methanol at Home Plus. Higher concentrations of ethanol aren't very easy to find. My sister-in-law is a nurse, so she got some for me last year, but before she did, I looked for three weeks unsuccessfully.
