Well (unless I hallucinated it - without the use of drugs...) I remember seeing the following capsule description of the Seoul Veggie Club on Facebook - "it's about food and drink" ...
Of course, vegetarian food is implied by the context, but I think that many - if not most - people would interpret "drink" to mean alcoholic beverages.
So, at least in a grammatical sense, vegetarian food is equated with liquor.
Not that I'm not opposed to people drinking wine or beer at veggie club gatherings, but - considering the kind of reputation many expats deservedly have - I'm leary of "vegetarian" drunk fests down the road. |

Name: Seoul Veggie Club
Type: Common Interest - Food & Drink
Description: This club, composed of people who understand that ham is not a vegetable, meets twice a month to explore new veggie-friendly restaurants in Seoul, exchange recipes and tips on how to survive as a vegetarian in Korea. |
"Food and Drink" is an official category-- you can't get the "Food" without the "Drink." No veggie-booze-ups have been scheduled. |

Dang, my last reply (to "Bramble's" question if there really might be a split in the veggie club) got buried at the bottom of the last page, so I'll copy it here:
I don't foresee a split - I accept "Kermo's" authority, and she's really done a very good job - certainly much better than I did (or probably would do if I had to do it again...)
There are different kinds of vegetarians, and I'm just airing some philosophical differences - along with some hot air (and shameless plugs for my great karaoke singing ...)
I like to advise and assist whenever needed, but I'm not the least bit upset if my unsolicited suggestions aren't taken.
At some point, though, if the club gets really big, I can see it expanding to a weekly gathering - and maybe a second manager could take charge of the alternate weeks.
(Hey, at least the thread is getting bumped ...)
The "food and drink" issue was just an attempt at dark humor, I think - or else I'm just getting senile ...

Well, to not exclude the vegans in the group, we could possibly stop by "Soy Delicious" after a lunch or dinner gathering. There's a branch near Yanjiae station (exit 6). I'm not vegan myself, but I've tried a couple of their flavors, and they tasted great ... |

Dos Tacos in Hongdae followed by a short walk to Pure Decadent for vegan ice cream!! that is totally perfect!
I much prefer Hongdae to Gangnam and the dos tacos is bigger there too! |

Although I like Dos Tacos in Gangnam, I'm not sure that it could handle the big likely turnout from our (er "Kermo's"...) group.
"Oni's" idea - including the convenient option of going to Pure (Purely?) Decadent for soy ice cream later sounds good (for the Nov. 17 gathering -the current, Nov. 4, event is at the Taj Palace in Itaewon ...)
(I think that "Oni" is one of the original members of the Seoul Veggie Club, having joined some time before me ...)

Sooper dooper. Thanks! It's going to be a mighty full house.
I've made the reservation (for 20+ people) and spoken to the owner about vegan options.
He recommended that vegans order the roti rather than the naan to avoid eggs, and if we ask, he will make sure to omit cream and eggs from a number of dishes. |

What time is the Seoul veggie club thing happening on 11/4? Can new folks attend?
Thanks |

New folks are always welcome. I've got a few last minute RSVPs coming in, but the restaurant should be big enough, and people often drop out at the last minute anyway.
It's at 1:00 pm. Vegans will be cheerfully accomodated (says the owner.)
By the way, I talked to the owner of Dos Tacos in Gangnam and he said he'd be happy to have us, but if you want this to be in Hongdae I can talk to them too. |

And 32 people showed up!
We pretty much took over the restaurant. The owner was very kind about letting us all sit together.
I'm going to start a new thread to discuss upcoming events and strategies for accomodating our gigantic group! |
