Lately my school has been hiring older teachers, which is actually a great idea since they have a lot of experience with teaching, give great advice, and help the younger Korean/Gyopos teachers.
This one woman is very nice, but she reminds my of my mother! She told me the other day to stop biting my fingernails, tries to fix my hair, and is extremely nosy. She is a really nice person, but....Personally, I think it's somewhat inappropriate.
It is normal for older women in schools to act that way? |

Ask if she'll breast feed you and then the shoe'll be on the other foot. |

As an "older woman" working in Korea....the answer is NO. It is not normal for older women in schools to act that way.
Think of all the teachers you've seen in Korea. In addition to the seemingly "normal" ones, I've met people who seem socially challenged, others with booze problems, those who look like they slept in their clothes and a few who seemed a little weird. I don't think it's fair to say that any one of the foregoing represents their age group or country. Similarly, nosyness is not related to age. |

Thought you were LITERALLY working with your mother. Now that would be original.

(I thought so too for a moment.)
No it wouldn't be original. There was a young newbie teacher awhile back asking if employers might provide shared accommodations for him & his mom, who was also planning to teach in Korea. Can you imagine that? Living overseas, but still living at home. |
