Have you ever noticed that every time somebody posts something the reply almost always has to include some kind of insult? It's like it's mandatory or something!

So really, just forget it.

how about adding another option? For example;

8. i am a very motivated person, dedicated to the job that i do. i have done other jobs in the past whilst at university and always performed at my best. i like teaching a lot and enjoy the challenge of being the best teacher i can be.

or this one;

9. i have travelled to a few countries and found it to be a rewarding experience. having completed a teaching degree(or tefl course...insert relevent certificate here....) i seek to work in the field in the future to better the language ability of students from different countries.

or this one;

10. i really enjoy teaching and do a lot of preparation for classes. i take pride in being the best teacher i can be. i like my students and respect other cultures. i want to learn about other cultures, which is why i am in korea now.

or this one;

11. i dont really drink much and an very sad to hear that a few english teachers get into trouble in korea. however, i fully understand that the proportion of bad eggs in the english teaching profession is by no means higher than any other profession.

question;

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THE FOLLOWING RATIO:

1+2+3+4+5+6+7 / 8+9+10+11?

WE DON'T KNOW!

Well, it's still in your quote anyway, so anyone can still read it. But the reason I took it down was because I just read your response and was struck by this combination of frustration and exhaustion.

First, because it was just supposed to be just another dumb way of passing the time and not meant as any kind of dig on anyone at all except maybe those proud jerks who think they're better than everyone, who need to be taken down a notch for their own good.

Second, because of the prospect of explaining its original intent only to have to face yet another ugly, stupid insulting reply and then come up with my own stupid insulting reply so you don't get one up on me, and all this when I could have been doing something, anything else.

Unfortunately, now it's already happened. So reply away and keep the insults coming, because truly it is the most educated and intelligent thing to do. It must be great to be such a wonderful human being.

I think it's silly of some to accuse many of us here of "not being qualified teachers" because we don't have a teacher's certificate from our home countries. The licensing requirements here are different just like many of the other laws here are different from those "back home." Additionally, not all teachers "back home" are required to have a teacher's certificate. The Republic of Korea has decided that the requirements for which foreigners who should be here teaching English are those who: are native English speakers and have a mimimum of a Bachelor's degree from a university or college accredited in its country.

The question that remains in the thread title is a good one, though. Who shoudn't be teaching? Those with criminal bacgrounds, pedophiles, those who show up for work drunk or high, and violent individuals. I'm open to expanding this short-list, but only within reason.

You worded a post in the hopes it would generate a little kumbaya bash fest perhaps?

Your categories all portrayed criminals, idiots or some other sort of characters that would obviously not be qualified to teach or even flip burgers as the analogy goes.

Just what was your aim there? Besides stirring the pot I mean...
