When was the last time anyone heard or saw a mod? (Of course, I realize this thread will bring them out of the woodwork.)
Maybe this forum could use a little moderation. |

I disagree. The posts here are tasteful and relevant. The arguments are well formed and come with good evidence. |

I don't know....
Maybe 20 different threads about the same thing? Maybe people purposefully trying to derail topics? Maybe people breaking the swear filter? Maybe people posting pages of recipes just to ruin a thread because they dislike the OP?
Things like that. |

Yeah, you're probably right. However, I still think that the occasional touch of a mod's almighty finger might do this forum some good.
I'm sure you remember the days when we actually moderated ourselves? You know... Someone would post about "Dancing Babies," and then someone would post about "Babies Dancing." Then twenty posters would rip him a new one for creating a redundant thread.
I miss those days. |

I think you have to utilize the report function if you want a mod to wade into this morass. |

I dunno. I used to report that EFLTrainer dude all the time and he's disappeared. Was it the mods? Or did he finally have the breakdown he was headed for? |

Yeah, I personally would not want to see a reprise of that period last year where we had a mod running around declaring this forum a bastion of abusive posting, and trying to cajole everyone into a supposedly higher standard of civility.
I agree that we don't need a hundred threads on the 9/11 truth debate. After all, if the Creation vs. Evolution gang, a fervent group of posters if ever, can confine their debate to one thread, then the truthers and their opponents should be able to do the same.
Here's a suggestion:
Most of the "9/11 truth" threads seem to be started by the so-called "truthers", ie. the people who argue against the US government's version of events. If the "anti-truthers" wish to continue in the discussion, they should all congregate on one particular truther thread, and confine the debate to that thread. Presumably, the truthers might stop posting multiple threads if all except one are getting zero replies. |

I just can't see it working out that way. |

Of course the mods are moderating and will delete threads that get out of hand. |

See, I was under the impression that the purpose of having "threads" was to discuss a topic. A topic.
Case in point, keane's "Peak Oil" thread. It's a thread discussing the topic of "Peak Oil." If someone has a new piece of information about that topic, they put it in the thread and discuss it.
However, there seem to be some posters that are intent on making new "threads" for every piece of information they find. Thus, they are turning the entire forum into one "thread" about the topic of their choosing.
See the problem? Some people don't understand the concept of a "thread." Those people are ruining the forum. It's immaturity at it's finest, and I guess the "moderators" can't be bothered to come in here once a month and do their job. |
