I am totally not intending this to make fun of the mormon religion. I was watching an old DVD rerun of South Park just now, and the episode where the mormon new kid comes to SP elementary school was on. The kid is telling Stan about the mormon religion, and he mentions that Adam Smith claims to have a vision in which a native american angel comes to speak to him and tells him that all native americans are the original people in the world who can from Israel. Adam asks why modern day native americans have red skin, and the native american angel replies that one Hebrew tribe murdered another -- the one the angel had come from -- and so God punished that other tribe by turning their skin red.
So, my question is: Do mormons really believe that native americans are really Hebrews from Israel who were punished by God by having their skin turned red? |

Maybe Adam came after and told them how to divide the labor.
Another question to Mormons -
Do you believe you can become Gods? I mean, not LIKE God, but real GODS? Having your own world and people to manage? Does that mean that you now create the morality or do you have to "toe the party line"?
When I studied with Mormons, I asked them this question. They said "If I can't comprehend my God, how can I even begin to try to comprehend what is above God?"
Their reaction told me that this idea of humans becoming Gods was not foreign or absurd to Mormons.
Any future Gods out there? Holler at me. |

Oh spare the PCness, please.
I think that its a stupid religion and that anyone who buys into that nonsense needs to have their head re-examined.
Don't get me wrong, I think some religions are cool. I just think Mormons have picked an especially stupid one. |

oh yeah, i was drunk when I made this post. And somewhere in the back of my mind I was thinking about the macroeconomic situation of the US because I'm trying to decide which currency to change my severance pay into. |

Yes, plenty. There are over 80,000 South Korean members of the LDS church here. |

They're on the march in Latin America and Africa too. You know, where the people aren't educated and easily fall for tales of a better life after this one. |

Yes they do, even though DNA shows there's no evidence to support this but really strongly suggests American Indians came from Asia. Not the holy land. Further the book of Mormon is loaded with anachronisms that Smith would have easily made if he was just pulling it out of his ass. Horses, for example, did not exist in the New World before Europeans arrived.
But then remember, lots of Christians have been raised since birth with stories from the bible. Didn't you really believe a man was swallowed by a whale and lived in it? Noah put 40 million species on a little boat? Virgin birth? A loving god kills innocent children because they're mistakenly born to non-Jews?
Look at the stuff Rteacher posts to the evolution thread. People were flying around in TIE fighters 10 million years ago. That seems perfectly sensible to him. |

Yeah, still though (and im not religious at all), there's a difference between simply believing there's a God and being Christian on the basis of faith (a belief in X that cannot be known because it cannot be confirmed) and being a mormon and believing so many nutty things like this. (seems to exceed mere faith and enter into complete lunacy because of the nature of what is to be believed without possible confirmation).
Furthermore, its amazing there is an entire state in the usa full of these people. Amazing... |

It's even more amazing that these fools are here, teaching children and obviously instilling their beliefs in them. No wait, that's frightening, not amazing. |

Mormon missionaries apparently used this to recruit anyone with American Indian blood in them ("you're one of God's chosen!") and, now that DNA studies have shown this to be untrue, many have left the LDS church. |

The original version of the Book of Mormon promised that someday the Native Americans will repent.
God will thereupon reward the Native Americans by turning their skin
"white and delightsome". (2 Nephi 30:6)
Then the Mormons got in trouble for their racist teachings, so they changed that to "pure and delightsome." |
