If they don't pony up SOME of the cost to do the renewal (say, half), people will just get a new job and the school will be stuck paying full cost of flights over. |

i still think its true guys. my girlfriend found the information today on the korean justice department website. the good thing is this news got my girlfriends dad to agree to signing the wedding papers right away! f-2 visa in the next couple of weeks!

And i still say I don't have to worry. It'll be 10 monhs before I have to choose between renewing and moving on... by then the system will have gone back to the way it was. |

Maybe for new E2's, but not for renewals. Maybe. We'll see. Another poster on here said that he called the justice department and they said the new changes will only apply to new E2 visas. And nothing has been confirmed yet. |

| As Britain doesn't recognize Dokdo as belonging to Korea, can all Brits write to Gordon Brown at once to propose colonizing Dokdo and putting a high commission there? I certainly don't fancy round trips to London to face a 10 minute interview with an ajossi either. |

Brits yeah, but Canadians? Canada has a west coast too - there's a consulate in Vancouver. |
Yeah but London is the cheap flight hub of Europe. A flight to London is usually cheaper than a flight to LA. |

Yeah, and the distance is about the same too:
9591 km to LA
8864 km to London
8167 km to Vancouver
People often look at the land mass between Asia and Europe and assume that it's farther away than North America. |

| But, USA people should be able to pop down to Guam. Still a pain if you ask me. Hopefully, this new crap doesn't apply to people staying another year at the same school. Let's keep our fingers crossed! |

Update #2, as promised earlier in the thread.
I phoned Daejon Immi again this morning, spoke to a different person than last week, and carefully explained all the details contained in this thread. For the second time, this immi official told me that to 'renew' your E2 with your current employer, you are not required to go to your home country. The process will remain the same as in the past. Go to immi, bring the proper documents, buy your stamps, done.
I'm going to now consider this matter closed until I hear something directly from immigration. |

Double thanks.
I renew in December. But really. Come on, people. Why would it be any different for renewals? Immi sees that you're renewing and stamps your passport. Simple process. They're not going to let everyone go through the headache of a school not having a teacher. That's ridiculous. And even if there were a new rule, they'd probably ignore it or your boss would convince them otherwise. |

I'm confused (along with a lot of other people by the sounds of it)....
My situation is - I'm one month into an E2 visa. For a variety of reasons I don't like my job, and would like to leave and get a new one (after working my contractual notice, and finding them a new teacher).
If my boss was to agree to let me go, provide me with a letter of release, and accompany me to immi to confirm this, am I going to have to leave the country twice and get criminal record checks to get a new job????
Also - just wondering - people have mentioned the "Changing Employer" option on the forms at immigration. I thought that the school who sponsors your E2 visa basically owns your visa..... It can't be that simple that you could just change your employer, could it????????????
Any info / advice would be much appreciated...
