Hey, this was just an inquiry. It seems that the Koreans provoke a lot of people, and I'm wondering if I was the only one who'd had confrontations in this department.
I also want to see if any of you think it's considered a form of self-defense when dealing with someone who's being intimidating and looking and sounding as if they're going to attack you, even to the point of physically getting in your way and preventing you from getting out of theirs.
And yes, self-defense does pertain to protecting your own personal property back in the states. As for fighting with woman, all I can say is that in Thailand women are arrested for domestic battery more than men.
A violent woman is also a violent person and it doesn't matter what the sex is. |

| Rock, I hear you, I've been there myself (well, not at taking swings at WOMEN for chrissakes..). I had a strapping young Korean buck want me to dance with him, then want to fight when I refused. This was not a gay club (not that there's anything wrong with that...) That's one of my milder and more entertaining stories. But, take everyone's advice here and just let it go and walk away. NO ONE will take your side, back you up, or help you out. The best you can hope for is a ride with the police and a quick release. The worst is a few million won out-of-pocket. Discretion is the better part of valor, they say. That's especially true here. |

I'm not though. I get along with many of them just fine. They aren't all like that, which is what I should have said. Just a large proportion of them. Very confrontational. |

Interesting point but not always valid.
In Itaewon, I went to a bar that just happened to turn out to be the local hangout for Americans of a certain colour. I was asked by three different people in the space of 5 minutes why I was there and whether I was trying something on.
I went there because that environment I thought would be comfortable for me, not because I thought I was trying something.
Sometimes, other people have the issues and we have to live with them, not because we have the issues. |

General rule is..so long as someone is merely talking (however loud or intimidatingly), then your response need not go beyond the same. |

You're teaching the youth of this country? Just what exactly are you teaching them?
While you're at it why don't you go ahead and tell them that half-black/half-Korean children, like in all the orphanages, are sub-human and should be spit upon? You truly scare me. |

Simple rule 1:
Fighting is the very last resort. Avoid it if you can and resolve your disagreements like an adult and with your head instead of your fists.
Simple rule 2:
Getting into fights in a foreign country is simply stupid.
Simple rule 3:
Fights usually happen under certain comment circumstances. Stay out of those situations and magically your ods of getting in a fight plummet to near-zero. |
