My employer, who is soon to be out of business but is still operating (probably until the end of November), gave me my official written letter of release today so that I can seek new employment. I want to stay in Korea and work. What do I do now?
1) Do I need to take the letter to Immigration before I seek employment?
2) Or do I try and find a job first and then go to Immigration?
2) And if I go to Immigration, do they give me something that says I can seek employment?
3) And do I have a certain grace period so that I can stay in the country while I look for a job?
This is all rather confusing for a newbie (only 2 months in Korea and my 1st dealings with this mess. Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

Just go get a job, and when you apply for your new E-2, you show them the letter.
Make sure you're out of here within the proper time after your current E-2 is canceled, if it has been canceled already.
Make an extra copy of your release letter. |

Thanks for the info...that's a good start. My current employer hasn't canceled my E-2 yet and I'll probably have a job before he does. But just in case, how much time am I allowed to stay in the country after the E-2 has been canceled? I've heard 1 day, 14 days, and 1 month. Do you have any idea?
Also, I've already interviewed with or had discussions with BCM, YBM, Wall Street, and Pagoda, because I'd prefer to work with adults. If you've been in Korea for awhile, do you have any knowledge of these 4?
I've seen their contracts and they all seem to favor the employer, and none of them offer housing, and the pay is about the same, and split shifts are common for a new hire. Do you have a recommendation?
Thanks |
