But, as I said in my first post, I don't want to have the mac vs. the world argument on here. Just pm me with the details if you think I can find a better deal for something other than a mac.

Pm sent.

And not trying to create a debate, but one thing I have to mention is that US brands will also tend to be overpriced here. Look at Samsung, LG or better yet the no-name korean brands. Those will be cheapest.

Can't say that I agree with you about that. Samsung retail products seem to be grossly overpriced in Korea for what they are. Off-brand Korean brands maybe, but Samsung? Maybe I'm wrong Confused .

You're not wrong. It's a well-known fact that Samsung electronics are priced higher than Chinese brands because Samsung knows Koreans will buy them because they're a Korean brand and therefore superior.

Oh, and as much of a Mac fanboy I am, you can get a decent Windows machine for under a grand, and Apple doesn't really have anything but the Mini available at that price point, which is a very limited computer. However, in the $1200-2500 range, the Mac really shines when compared to similiarly-equipped PCs.

It depends on the Samsung product. Some of them do seem to be jacked up a bit, but I've found decent deals on them before. And they'll still be cheaper than Dell in general. Or Mac. Or Alienware, *chuckle*.

Anyway, if the OP has his heart set on a mac he should get the one someone is selling in the buy/sell forums. Used, but priced similar to a new PC with the same specs.

If I was in the market I might even buy that. The only thing I really have against macs is the ridiculous pricing.

Not true :

13" notebooks -
Dell MX1330 $1738
Apple Macbook $2039

with 2GB of RAM and 160GB HD.

15.4" notebooks -
Dell Vostro 1500 $1530
Apple MacPro $3009

with 1440x900 resolution, 2GB of RAM and 160GB HD. For $80 more, the Dell can have a 1680x1050 screen.

I don't have my heart set on a mac. For once I'd just like to get a really good laptop though. Top, or close to top of the line. The one I have now I only paid $400USD for and it doesn't even have a dvd burner. I just want the best for the money.

I would look at a Thinkpad X-60t. One of the few laptops that has made me seriously consider selling of my THinkpad and buying a new one.

Or if you are after the gaming side of things and Alienware.

I've looked at Macs and I just can't justify tying myself into their technology and software. I know the fanboys bleat away about the wonders of Macs but I just don't see it, haven't felt it or seen any good reason to move to a new platform.

Don't fall for the hype.

Work out what you are going to use it for. How long you are going to keep it for. Is it the pure flash factor you are after or are you after a genuine workhorse.

If you then think the Macs specs are what oyu want and it will do everything you do then buy one.

Newteacher, are you in a position to go try out a Mac at Yongsan? You should definitely try before you buy if you can. Of course, I made the switch sight unseen and have been happy ever since.

I'm a recent switcher as well and I've been quite happy with my new 15.4" MBP. If that makes me a fanboy, then be it. I'd suggest that you give Mac a try and see if it has what you need.
