Even without reading the reviews that would've been my guess. Hollywood remakes of foreign films invariably suck, and a k-romance story of falling in love with a psycho girl who beats you up all the time wouldn't work anywhere else but here.

With such a stellar cast, I agree.

As I recall the remake of Infernal Affairs did rather well.

Did well, yes... but in comparison to the original?

I'm actually asking - still haven't seen the original.

I have the original and one of the sequels (there were three films), but never bothered to see The Departed. The first Internal Affairs was great.

Infernal Affairs II couldnt live up to the first one, but it was still better than a lot of other movies Ive seen. I heard that The Departed was a combination of all three movies, but I wouldnt know. I bought the first one from yesasia for $6 years ago, but now they charge $15.

(I don't know who the chick is on the cover, she wasn't in the movie...)

I can't see how a remake could work. That movie totally relies on Korean customs.

True. But even then it was a bit wanky.

In reality, very few foreign movies are remade to a decent quality....City of Angels anybody?!

Totally made in Korea, by koreans for koreans... very funny with subtitles, adds more spunk to the action... but an English remake... Beeg Mistake, unless of-course you find a way to make up for the silliness... btw... JJH is the best...

My Sassy Girl worked for Korea and Asia because a young woman being kind of loud and demonstrative in public was something of a novelty. I'm not sure how they'll capture that shock 'n' awe in the west.

Damn straight - 6 months from now you'll find it on the shelf between "SuperBabies - Baby Geniuses 2" and "Battlefield Earth"

And the explanation in the Korean media?

"Foreigners don't get the complex Korean relationships, they don't know what 정 is."

Maybe not, but I sure know a turkey when I see it.

My Sassy Girl was a good movie. But thats because it made sense in the Korean context. Hollywood will destroy it. I expect the same would happen with a movie like Old Boy, in Korean a masterpiece, in its Hollywod version it will be crap.
