For performance its CLEARLY Rowdy Roddy Piper in They Live.

But Arnold still takes the cake. The guy actually had a great range. Action movies, comedies. And he made some really GOOD movies by any standard. Twins was a great comedy. True Lies was a good one. Terminator is a classic, and thats a trilogy. Conan also. Nobody can touch Arnie.

How much had you drunk Jinju when you wrote this...?

Arnie is as wooden as his.. erm... perfectly sculpted torso. They guy was a great b'builder, but an actor with 'a great range...?'

I dunno, but people like Brad pitt (laugh all you want, but look back at his careeer) Ed norton, Jack Nicholson, (early) de Niro, Jeremy Irons, Ralph Fiennes are people that spring to mind when that phrase is mentioned, sh#t, even Tom Cruise (magnolia, Interview, be kind now..) would come a hundred places higher than Arnie on a 'who is a major hollywood actor with a great range?' survey.

Sorry jinju, but as a movie lover, I couldn't let that one lie....

NONE of them were atheletes.

Im not saying ARNIE had great range, but that he was in many genres of SUCCESSFUL movies.

Comedy - Twins, True Lies, Kindergarten Cop
Action - Terminator, Total Recall, Red Heat, Running Man, Predator, Commando
Fantasy - Conan movies, Red Sonja

He was even in a really good documentary - Pumpin Iron.

Now, those were good, successful movies for their genres. And Arnold was the STAR in each of them. Can you think of ANY former athlete who was a star in big blockbusters, and as many as Arnie? Pretty much all end up being bit players and jokes. Arnie was the lead man, and he did all in his second language.

If the category is former body builders turned actor, Sean Connery is a better actor than Arnold ever was. But that's a separate thread.

The Rock...

Arnold is definitely the gold standard like Jinju already explained but the Rock has been quite successful and may perhaps surpass him...
