Hello all. I just got to Seoul after 3 years. I would like to know where to buy the western foods I like. I remember their is a place by Itaewon next to a Volvo dealership. They have a deli and black market stuffs and a grocery that cateries to westerns or other foriegners. IS it still ther and are ther others around Seoul. Thanks |

Yup, still there and still overpriced.
You'd be surprised at the kind of goods you can procure at a Home Plus or other mega store these days. The one near me has been shelving tortillas for the past several months, and they're selling well. |

I know man. I went to that shop 2 weeks ago (following the trail of foreigners) and they were selling Tilamook cheese for 8800 won. Ridiculous! Tony's Blackened Cajun seasoning for 8400! Absurd, but hey like I'm gonna find that elsewhere.
No guns, no butter, no Corona, no shoes that fit, y'all KILLIN me here!
On the HomePlus note, they sell western candies (Snickers, etc).
A chain grocer, I think it is called E-Mart or F-mart or H-Mart, sells Tabasco for 4400 won. So you make do with what you've got.
EDIT: In my neck of the woods, I can buy French bread. Surprisingly it tastes pretty well. Prices range from 1000 to 1600, about the same in California. |

I might be wrong, but I think the correct way to say that is "it tastes pretty good." |

There is a Paris Baguette store that I go to in my town. Perhaps your town has a store devoted to bread? |

If pushed for time or energy, then online may be a good way to buy.
Most foods are delivered within 2 days, at a very small fee (2,500원 typ.). |

Paris Baguette will not be far away from you, many breads including a nice one called 'Dietry Fibre Bread'. I tried this thinking it can't be that good,
; but it is.
Crown bakeries are similar and cheaper.
The big cakes they make in Korea are better than any I have tasted in the UK. Simply fabulous, buy one for a friend and then eat half of it . |

You can find all those things (including Corona and much more) at half the price at Costco. That's where those retailers buy most of their goods anyway. |

this thread is lame for the following reasons:
1. Crazy mistakes in conversational English
2. Lack of any useful information
3. Thread about WHERE to find western food and people are talking about Paris Baguette and Crown Bakery, the OP has just recently moved to Seoul, not Korea |

Yep,
Eastern food culture = rice based: Western food culture = wheat/cereal based?
Go online to http://www.ezshopkorea.com .
Should see most of the western food you want. |

You can get Corona at just about any corner store in Korea. The grocery store the OP is talking about is in Hanam Dong in the Volvo building. There is also Dandy's Grocery store in the same builing which is way cheaper and has a better variety of stuff that the Hanam. There is a deli in the building also if you are looking for fancy cheese and meats. Most of the stuff at the Hanam is from Costco with marked up prices. Dandy's has the typical Costco stuff but also has a good variety of blackmarket stuff from the US army base. Anti persperant, burritos, sliced turkey, Boca burgers etc etc are all available there. In Itaewon there is the Foriegn Food Market located near What the Book. They have a slightly different mix of Costco stuff and US army stuff. They also have a great selection of middle eastern stuff. There are also a couple of different "red door" stores in Itaewon which sell stuff straight from the army bases. Dongdaemon (spelling?) also is a good place for some foreign stuff, but I think Dandy's and Hanam have you covered so there is no reason to go there unless you need weight lifting stuff. Coex has a store that has a few different types of foreign candy and also hs the Hyundai Department store than has a few odds and ends also. The major department stores have loads of stuff also. If you want to avoid the mark ups, just go to Costco yourself. Bring your Passport and ARC and you can get a card for like 35,000W. Yes, a lot of this has been said already and my spelling sux. |

If you live near Hannam monkey-food market, you can nip in for some decent bread. It's right next to the cash registers in the main store.

Yeah, I know a place. Just hop on a plane and get off anywhere in the Western Hemisphere, really. Walk out of the airport and down the street--you should see a large neon sign in the distance.
Walk closer and you'll see that the sign says "Wal-Mart". Proceed inside. |
