First His Pants, Then His Lawsuit, Now His Job
Digital Chosun Ilbo wrote: |
Roy L. Pearson, the administrative law judge in Washington, D.C., who drew international attention for the US$54 million lawsuit he lost against a Korean-American laundry owner for losing his pants, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that the Commission on Selection and Tenure of Administrative Law Judges decided in an open vote last week not to reappoint Pearson to a 10-year term as a judge after reviewing his work and conduct.
The commission cited as the reasons for its decision a "lack of judicial temperament and judgment in the conduct of [his] judicial duties" and a "combative" attitude with supervisors and colleagues. |
Hmmm...saw that one coming...
Does anyone know if the Koreans were reimbursed for their court costs yet? |

It must have been an absolute night-mare for them...
I mean seriously what the plaintiff wanted was soooo ridiculous. |

Good--
I even emailed the city (much good that did, but I was so upset) telling them they should fire that joker. Glad to see he got what was coming to him. From the way he acted in court, I really wonder if he has some sort of mental problem though, seriously, this "ex-judge" is nuts! |

All you need to know about the case. You will notice the decent manner in which the Chung family behaved. It is quite the contrast for "Judge Fancy Pants." |

Great that he lost his job. Ahh, just to think of how many nice pairs of pants he could have bought on that judges salary. I hope they take away his pension as well. Leave him pantsless and penniless I say. |

I wonder if the Chungs at any point had ever considered, among themselves, say, a $2 million out-of-court settlement. Just to make it all go away. He was clearly open to negotiation, having reduced his initial claim of $67 million to $54 million. Who can afford to throw $13 million discounts around like that? What a generous man. The Kingfish would have been proud of ol' Roy. |

but...what he did was completely legal. has the innane law been fixed? no. that would be too logical.
the quickest way to expose a bad law is to enforce it. |

The law he used was legal, but the WAY he used it was vexatious and frivolous. As a judge (sorry, former judge), he should know better. |

My favourite line from the link:

On June 12, 2007, the trial began. Pearson broke down in tears during an explanation about his frustration after losing his pants, and a short recess had to be declared. |
