Over the past 6 months, I have accumulated a nice collection of 4 parking tickets. For some reason, I haven't really felt like paying them. I am wondering what the penalty is for this, and if I will have to pay them before I leave the country.
I know if I sell my car, I will have to pay them in order to transfer the registration over to the new owner. But, I am planning on running my car into the ground, therefore I don't plan on selling it. So, is it necessary for me to pay my tickets? Thank you

I got two parking tickets in a span of a week a few months ago. My wife and I went to the local kyung chal station, I thought, to pay the 100,000won fine. Once we got there, though, my wife starting talking to one of the cops, saying her husband can't speak Korean, can't read the signs, and that I took my driver's test in English here in Korea, and that I didn't know I was parking illegally.

None of what she was saying was true (except the driver's license in English part) and I was very uncomfortable with it, but my wife can get creative to try and save a few bucks... Anyway, the cop had her write out an appeal for the parking tickets, a form to explain why we thought we shouldn't pay the fine.

A few weeks later, my wife called to find out what was what, and they told her that the appeal was accepted and that we didn't have to pay the fine. Laughing

Pleading ignorance works sometimes, I guess.

I planned to do the same thing with my car. I paid $400 for it, that was about 10 parking tickets. I had 3 or 4 so I figured I had some free parking violations to go when...I totaled my car. I had to pay the tickets to clear the title or something. But, they only got the last couple in my new town. Not the first few in the city I previously lived in.
