I've seen a few rough dudes that look like the gang types out of a movie.

i don't know the particular names, however there are loads of gangs in korea.

you can spot them in their all black attire. they are usually a little beefier that the average korean. they usually have very short hair.

you can spot them in the gym as they typically have dragons and what not all over their bodies.

i heard that the average gangster in korea only makes 1.4 million a month.

i find it simply amazing that they don't dominate the drug culture in korea.

so much money to be made.

Not counting the nightclub wannabe-mobsters, the only other time I'd seen any gangpae was one August outside the Doota building in Dongdaemun. SWELTERING heat and SOUL-CRUSHING humidity, but these guys were dressed head-to-toe in black suits/shirts/pants/jackets and sweating their nads off. I could only laugh at how ridiculous they looked.

High-school drop-outs turned pimps and loan sharks dressed entirely in black to accentuate the tough look.

A large number of Yakuzi are displaced Koreans in Japan, they can't get a job cause the aren't Japanese so they join the gangs. But who knows if they last long or get very high on the foodchain.

Dunno if 강패 is Konglish. It's not in the dictionary even though the word has been around for at least 12 years, probably more.

Many do make it up the ranks. It's one of the places where they face the least discrimmination in Japan.

How-to meet a Korean gangster:

1. Go to a 단란주점, preferrably in Gangnam or Youngdeungpo

2. Order lots of booze and hostesses for conversation

3. Refuse to pay the tab

4. 안녕!

Apparently *beep* mutilation is something some Korean gangsters (as well as Yakuza) do, Something like putting glass (or titanium) balls around your *beep* to make it thicker.

My exgf had 2 friends date gangsters here, apparently one loved it and the other hated it and left the bf immediately. Guess this surgery is also often done in prison.

My ex had some wild friends, apparently abortion is more common here then in Canada. Said one girl had 6 abortions(one who liked the gangster) and a few others had one as well.

I have been asked before about being a "gangster". I am beefier than most Koreans, shave my head down short at times, and have many tattoos (not visible if I don't want them to be).

"Teacher, were you a gangster before you were a teacher?" Laughing
