Does anybody know the legalities of entering Korea after a midnight run? I have a big problem with my current director, which, unless I can resolve, will probably cause me to take off, maybe to Japan.

Anyway, I'd love to come back to Korea before I go home to see my friends. But as an insult to my director, I'd like to say hi, or maybe wave to him with a grin as he walks into school. Can he call the police on me, or am I free to roam, provided I don't work anywhere?

(Yes, I'm a jerk, but trust me, he's a bigger one.)

You can come back on a tourist visa.

Basically when you leave the country and say you are not coming back, they cancel your work visa automatically.

If you plan to work legally again though, that won't be possible until the end of the contract you signed.

Why push the issue? If he decides to push the issue he could seriously screw you over by phoning Immigration and making a few claims that would prevent you from ever getting a work visa ever again. As well, if he says he saw you working you could be greeted with a million won fine at the airport when it comes time to leave.

It's always fun to play with fire, but unwise when he can hurt you far more than you can hurt him.

It wouldn't be very smart to do that. The director would probably go to the cops looking to recoup some of his losses. He has a signed contract with your name on it that you broke. He could claim that you owe him money for recruiters fees, airfare, utilities... what ever he wants. In the end it will be your word against his.

In the end, your director might be a jerk, but you would be the idiot for resorting to pettiness and losing some cash in the process. In the end it's not worth. Just send him an email or something.

Newfie,

Weren't you the one who compiled a big-ass list of recruiting agencies (http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=6652)?

What happened, you decided to go with one o' the bad guys?

Sugar in the fuel tank usually works quite effectively...

However, best you take no action other than SMEARING HIS NAME (and his hogwon's name, naturally) here on the board.

You'll be back in Korea in no time. There is no place to make you love Korea more than Japan. See yah soon.

Yeah, leave it. He's not worth it. Any hassle, no matter how small, is not worth it. Enjoy what few rarely do, freedom in Korea.
