| I have really no clues about the f-5 visa. I have been here for six years now and just heard about it here. I would really appreciate any news or information you all have on the subject. Also anything about the new f-2-1 visa restrictions would be appreciated. |

Are you on an F2-1? The easiest, if not the only really possible way to get on the F5 is through the F2-1. Otherwise you either have to have a boatload of cash to invest or be the 2nd Hiddink.
Benefits? Same as F2-1 with a few goodies thrown in:
1. You cant lose it upon divorce
2. Dont need to ever renew it.
3. You can vote in municipal elections
4. No multiple entry stickers
5. You can go through Incheon immigration with Koreans which usually means shorter lines.
6. YOU are your own sponsor. That means nobody owns you. |

| hey thanks a lot for the info man. Yeah, I am on the f2-1 visa. One more question. Is the application process long and drawn out or quick and easy like the f2-1 application? |

Well that really depends now - with the Neil thingy, it seems like all hell has broken loose and who knows whether they are also tightening the process for F visa holders or not?
For me, I am a woman married to a Korean man and the whole process took no more than 4 weeks and it was done last year in 2006. I know it took some people as long as 2 months. |

I understand that if you leave for more than one year you are expected to apply for a returning resident visa so you don't have to go through the whole shebang starting with F2 again.
Whether or not you have to apply before you initially leave or not is a moot point.
It's not the permanent residency that it initially seems. I wonder what other flaws it has....? |

If the upcoming visa BS is a result of that pervert (who wouldn't have even been filtered out by the upcoming visa BS), there needs to be a Visa Protest in Blacksburg on the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech Holocaust. |

Actually, even IF all the BS is passed, I'm pretty sure it'll still be easier for qualified candidates like me to get a working visa in Korea than it is for Koreans to even get a tourist visa in the States. |

I'm getting my F-5 tomorrow. The wife downloaded the form from the internet. I filled it out. I need my passport, my ARC and proof of money. Either a bunch in the bank or a letter of employment. ]
If anyone wants to know more send me a PM Fri night or this weekend. I'm more worried about what they'll have at Cosco than my visa. |

What hoops do they currently have to jump through? |

I believe that, to date, they still need to apply for the visa, then wait for a letter that states when they have to go to the US Embassy for an interview vis-a-vis to see if you are who you are and whether they should give you a visa or not. |

| Yeah, but the interview process isn't exactly a breeze. A friend of mine had trouble getting a tourist visa for his WIFE of 2 years. |

Since over 95% get approved for tourist visas, it sounds like he married my kind of girl.
I've been all for the US to lighten up and do a visa waiver altogether for South Korea and Bush trying to make that a reality is about the only good thing he has done during his whole presidency.
Even after the Virginia Tech Massacre was committed by a Korean in the USA on a visa, the American people were gracious enough to make motions to continue with the visa waiver. Sure, Chris Neil was a disgusting sex criminal and should be sentenced to death, but how many Korean sex criminals are working in the Asian massage parlors on Tara Boulevard in Atlanta as you read this?
If I have to get a blood test, a chest X-ray, STD tests, criminal background checks, etc, to get a Korean visa, I can go along with that as long as the employer or the recruiter foots the bill, but it's such a great idea in fact that I think it should be applied to people coming into America from Korea as well as leaving out to go there.
Square deal or no deal. |
