So, which is it? Criminal and health checks? Consular interviews? Visas in only the home country? Will all proposed legislation make it through, or will none or only some? Are hagwons paying the legislators enough money to kill this ludicrous nonsense? |

All are fine but the personal interviews and visa from home countries.
Phone interviews or interviews in other countries are fine, but requiring people to do things in person and in their own country is going to hurt education and the hogwan economy. |

I reckon the consulate interview and the medical will be scrapped. In light of the recent fiasco I can't see them abandoning their insistence on a background check but they might become more flexible about the time frame concerning that. If they don't drop some of these measures they are going to see a massive shortage of teachers. It's worth remembering that there is already a shortage despite the relative ease with which one can get work here. The immigration office have looked at the visa regualtions in place in Canada and the US but they have overlooked something which is glaringly obvious; Korea is no Canada. Korea is generally a deeply unpopular country amoungst the expat community here. Most are only here because they can extend their student years and live the life of riley. Others just use Korea as a leap pad for trips to South East Asia. I have a love hate relationship with this country but most expats I bump into just hate the place. I don't think these people realise how much westerners generally hate this country. They are going to have problems. |
