Unfortunately I think it's called the inevitable. There's no point in having the technology if the country is bankrupt and without allies. I can't see how America could drum up support with the wolves at it's doors. That's the inevitable. We hope it won't get to that.
Hegemonic status comes and goes. There is no other western nation who can replace it.

| Have you ever heard of nuclear weapons? That is the technolgy of which I spoke. One US boomer has more capability that the entire Chinese arsenal. |

That's a scenario that I hope we never get to. Launching an offensive just to see if you can maintain western hegemonic status would be a step too far. That is just bi-polar, us and them thinking. But I doubt in anyone's mind that would create any support from the US's "allies". Even if it is just a war of words. |

When I say allies, in my personal opinion, it comes down to "one bitten, twice shy" The Iraq war has burnt a lot of diplomatic bridges and I think that the US is unlikely to be able to rope in some of the countries that had previously helped them. Korea withdrew from Afghanistan, Italy left as well. I'm not saying that they were a major help there, but the reasons they withdrew will crop up again.
Also I can't see the English people allowing Brown to go to war again. He's unpopular and has little support. The next move that America makes, if it makes one, after this show of strength and ability, is going to be solitary. Hence the defence system.
I don't think there's a lot more that can be said to convince people about the mission in the Middle East. The objectives and reasons are too hazy. I think it'll remain this way. |

Israel Gets US "Aid" For Anti-Missile System

JERUSALEM (AFP) - The United States has given Israel 155 million dollars to develop an advanced missile interception system, Defence Minister Ehud Barak's office said in a statement on Thursday.
The money, which Congress approved on Wednesday, will help advance the development of a multi-layered anti-missile system that Barak presented to his US counterpart Robert Gates in Washington last month, the statement said.
The system, dubbed David's Sling, is intended to counter projectiles ranging from rudimentary rockets of the sort frequently used by Gaza militants to long-range missiles like those in the arsenal of Israel's arch foe Iran.
Israel has already successfully tested and deployed its Arrow anti-missile system, jointly developed with the United States, which is said to be able to deflect most missile strikes against the Zionist state.
Widely seen as the region's sole if undeclared nuclear power, Israel considers Iran its chief enemy after repeated statements from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Zionist state should be wiped off the map.
