My wife has just unwittingly given me the idea for a new thread...

I really like most Korean foods but there is one that I particularly hate. My wife is eating it now... I have come on to my computer to escape from the smell of the food. However, if it smells bad, it surely tastes even worse! What food am I talking about?...

Seaweed Soup (Mi-yok-guk 미역국) Evil or Very Mad

Poor Korean children. Usually they have this inflicted on them on their birthday while happy western kids are enjoying special treats, cake and perhaps ice cream on their birthday.

Can anyone defend seaweed soup? What Korean food do YOU hate?

princess, I will never eat that again-and the great thing about the Rocky Mountain Tavern is that they don't sell that crud there.

I don't know what it was-it was some fish soup, and the fish was tough as hell and it looked like brains. No thanks.

princess, would you like Moosehead beer tomorrow at RMT?

Boshintang.

Makes me glad I'm vegetarian.

Oh, and I can't stand the stench of the dried squid people eat on the KTX.

Hmm.. . I'd say 순대 (mmmmmmm nothing like blood and noodles
shoved into an intestine, then steamed, then left out for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours)

or anything made from the "world-famous" [to Koreans]
똥돼지 (mmmmmmmmmmmm nothing like the meat of a slaughtered
animal which was fed a steady diet of human feces so that this wonderfully pleasant aroma might come out in the flesh when it is eaten
as grease-laden fatback 삼겹살 yummmmmy!)

^ I wanted to go to the big dog market near Dongdaemun but a friend talked me out of it.. anyone been there?

Yeah I'd have to say dog and live octopus are on my list.

I like almost everything else mentioned in this thread though. Cept for poo-filled intestines.. never heard of that.

Those small fish (alive) dipped in hot sauce!

RE: Seaweed

I heard seaweed helps women recover after giving birth. It also promotes healthy breast feeding .

Why seaweed is "good for the health" :

"20-40% protein with a good amino acid profile
10-20% carbohydrate
1-3% fat
less than 10% water
10-35% minerals, Ca, Cl, K, Na, P, Mg, Fe
Oligoelements Zn, Cu, Mn, I, Se, Mo, Cr
Vitamins beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A), some vitamins of the B complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, & Folic acid. E and K"

Like another poster mentioned, gopchang (sorry, no hangul on this keyboard) is pretty minging.

It might seem like a simple thing, but I very much dislike the service dried squid you get with stuff, like in Khan Pub, with the mayo and gojujang dipping sauce. Again, minging. I hate the smell.

Odaeng is also pretty bad.

As much as I like seafood, I really don't like Al-tang. The sacs of fish eggs, no matter how spicy the broth, is just plain, again, minging.

Other than that, I love Korean food. The lot.
