Now is the time to stick it to the recruiters. With the new visa restrictions teachers will be in even shorter supply (specially the canadian scabs) so we all should insist on 50,000 an hr no less, or 3 mil a month plus houseing and bonuses. I already do cause I am so handsome! Very Happy

Oh ya the OP is dreaming, he's not handsome, but he has a point. Supply and demand, supply goes down so the price of a resource goes up. I my self will be a bit more selective if I have to go through all that B.S. in order to get my visa.

What are the new visa regulations and how will they affect supply and demand for TEFL'ers in Korea?

A lot of kids just go to hagwons with no foreign teacher. It's quite possible they'll do just that. Maybe they do have a plan to eliminate hagwons. I really don't think they plan that far, but who knows?

They'll just keep foreign teachers in public schools and have these after-school programs. Or that's the way it'll end up. That's all if this not-yet-determined document requirment regulations come into effect AND if it really does have an effect on the number of teachers available.

If the supply of teachers falls dramatically they could just claim that that was the plan or the way it should be. End of story.

Maybe the future of ESL will be studying abroad. Or there'll be a bigger market for it back in our countries. I can see it.

We aren't going to get more in terms of pay yet. Pigheaded school bosses won't figure that one out until early next year.

For now, you are better off insisting on either a signing bonus, or press for quicker paperwork.

I think we'll see a rise in pay for some next year, but not just yet.
